Barbel show ?

I have always found it a great day out, many famous anglers mingling, chatting and everyone has a good time. The speakers are usually very good, this year they should be great, eyeopening and the banter funny.Even just wandering around the stalls outside the main hall you catch up with people you have not seen for years and it gets you going ready for the new river season. You will also see specialist tackle that your local shops will not carry,eg tough 4 and 6 oz feeders for the Trent etc.Seeing a number of bait and barbel orientated companies at one time makes it easy to compare prices and quality. If you are looking to share petrol costs i live in Ruislip

As said above Gerry, it`s a great day out for all! Nice location, good speakers, and lot`s of trade stalls with plenty of bargains to be had too!! Just what everyone needs before the season begins....see you there.

Hi Mark thank you for the info and yes that sounds like a great idea I will send you a PM with my number

It's a fab event with great speakers and the trade stands provide an opportunity to replenish the tackle and bait shed before the season starts. You do also bump into people you have only chatted to on some forum or other which is mostly nice.

WELL worth it, if you can afford the travel costs.

Living in North Somerset it's a fair old expensive trek for me, but I did go to one a few years ago (when I hadn't even got back into fishing yet, during a long lay-off) as I happened to be in the vicinity for a work meeting, so hotel and travel had already been taken care of.

As others have said, it's a great day out. The one I went to had Tony Miles (RIP), Tref West, Duncan Charman, Bob Roberts, Steve Pope and a few younger guys who I'm sure were (are) a big deal, but as I'd been away from it for so long I didn't recognise them. I only had a chance to speak to Steve Pope (lovely lovely guy) and Bob Roberts (great info, just don't mention politics - let's just say he has..."interesting" views...), but the others did some really interesting talks.

There was also plenty of stuff there to buy, and a lot of offers too. One of the bait companies (I think it was Dynamite, but can't remember for sure) had a particularly large presence, and they were almost giving a lot of their stuff away it was so ridiculously priced.

I'd love to go again, but I'm either looking at 3 hours each way in the car plus petrol, or 4 hours on four trains each way at over £200 for the round trip ("USE PUBLIC TRANSPORT - IT'S QUICK, CHEAP AND AMAZING!!!!!").

I would like to thank every one for taking the time to reply
its helped me make the decision to go and I bought myself a ticket now
thanks again folks
Gerry

Are there any other members on here going to the show prepared to share travelling costs with other members that live local to them?

Thanks Dave for the offer, Gerry and i are sharing costs already to get to the show.I just thought with so many people who post on BFW going to the barbel society show we could all help one another and all save on petrol costs

There is also an attractive incentive for booking your tickets in advance.... A free day ticket for one of the fisheries & entry into a draw for a free membership of the Barbel Society for next season!!
