Has anyone had any Barbel School fishing lessons/trips with these Guys?

http://www.carpschool.com/coaches.html

It's interesting that they have a Trade Mark sign by their Logo's for each school. can something like that name be really trademarked? A rider says

CarpSchool, BarbelSchool and PredatorSchool are all trading names of Big Fish Trading Ltd. A company registered in England and Wales company number 04940235

It's interesting that they push the fact they are Level 2 coaches, that means nothing other than they have done a course which teaches them how to teach, there is no requirement on knowledge or experience to achieve this..............I would rather see years of experience and knowledge of water craft and a particular water........

If I was sending my kids out with a coach, I'd want to know they are qualified ... not just some old angler with no clue about how to go about coaching kids. The qualification includes stuff about dealing with accidents and emergencies as well as planning and reviewing lessons. But once I'd established they are qualified, then I'd want to know about knowledge and experience. and to be fair to the CarpSchool site, they make a big thing about the experience of the coaches. For example, one of them is the manager at Yately so local knowledge of the water should be good!

There will always be those who mistrust others who make a living out of angling, but I say good luck to these people. If I'd had the coaching when I was a lad, I probably wouldn't have given up and wouldn't have missed out on 20 years of fishing. No everyone has someone to teach them the basics.

Andy, I agree with you there, regarding the need for both..........

Don't actually know who the Steve is he refers to as being the manager of Yately Angling Centre..............
Ruth Lockwood owns it and recent employees are Charlie and Martin, Mike having recently left...........Steve Fantuzzi used to work there until about 3 years ago when he left to concentrate on his own The Thinking Anglers, together with Ben Hamilton...

Just checked, and the page was last updated on 9th April 2007. Not very impressive, is it? Especially as most of the pages just say "These pages are coming soon, just in the process of being recomplied" and they've been like for nearly 4 years as well! Either they can't be bothered to edit their website (not a good sign) or they may have folded years ago.

Personally if i was to book a guide for the day i would like to know that they have some sort of First Aid training and some sort of Public Liability Insurance to cover themselves against any sort of litigation.

Experienced and qualified are not necessarily the most important things when booking a guide in my book!

Interesting is that Graham, didnt I hear of some other set up using the very same phrase for some sort of promotion?

, graham, its a very interesting question you have put forward, about fishind coaches
and their qualifacations, but you have got to remember now,
1/ how much will theses lesson be, are they based on an hourly rate, or block booked lessons.
2/ theses coaches who will teach the kids, will the clubs have to haves these coaches police-checked.
3/ once the kids have learned the basics, their experence will come in time, like everything else does in life, you only have to look at people like john wilson, mat hayes
and alan scunthrope, its a goog ideal, but it will come down to cost ????
4/ like some of the other members have said, their alots of more issuses involved
