Barbel on the drop????

Has anyone ever had a barbel take the bait on the drop?
 
Not the hookbait, but the freebies, yes. About 4 years ago I had a 16lb plus fish taking half boilies as soon as I dropped them into the water.
 
I was so shocked it happened to me last night just as I flicked the bailarm over to put the rod on the rest unbelievable. I also had a double wrap round and landed both fish in total last night I had 29 barbel avg between 7&9lb
 
I had a barbel attack a baitdropper as it was lowered into the swim. Couldn't get it to take the hookbait though!

I was on 4oz but having got my fish feeding and casting to same place it was like they wad queuing up lol. 29 in one night at 200+lb of fish is one eck of an achievement.
 
yes, had them on float fished spam to which they took it about a foot under surface, oddly enough the twisted their bodies like the do when they flash and took it while twisting sideways, all this within 4ft of the bank in about 6ft of gin clear water, eperienced this a few times on same stretch, also had them taking hempseed on float tackle on the drop along with bream:)
 
I have had it happen a few times but only when fishing in weirs.
 
Had it on the tidal Trent earlier in the season, as soon as the feeder hit the deck the rod was nearly ripped out of my hands.

That is some session, I don't think I would/could be fishing with two rods in those circumstances:)
 
I dint use two for about 8 hour because it was mayhem best fishing session Iv ever had just totalled all the weight up as I recorded each fishes weight and times and it's totalled up at 237lb 13oz
 
Regularly on the River Wye where there are large numbers competing for food.Normally a couple / session, great fun! To increase the chances pour the flask or reach for a snack!!
 
i once had 7 on the drop in 4ft of water fishing the dane.i was using meat fishing just the bait without feed.first time in 40 yrs fishing for them.never worked out the reason for it.

Red letter day around 16 years ago on the Teme, fished hemp and caster on the pole, taking 44 barbel (3 - 5lb) 6 chub and a perch. They went crazy for it and nearly every fish was taken on the drop!
 
as ever nice to hear you john.just getting out twice a week for 3 hrs.not fished the river yet but had a 16lb 7oz common carp on a float and pin last week.hope you are well and keeping your feathered friend in check.
