Barbel Fishing Attire

Chaps,

As a watcher of all things Angling and Barbel I recently surfed the web and found things were different in yester year.. Many anglers of the time would dress appropriatley no doubt out of respect for their quarry as that was the done thing.

Angling was then aligned with Hunting and shooting.

It now seems that amongst many of us the urge to use older pieces of tackle is strong, but how many of you would go out with country dress and shirt and tie when on the bank.

How about a nice tweed jacket.

And this is how us Lutonians aproach the water.

You're a bit of a dapper dan, Mark, there's no denying it.

Do you perchance frequent the sacred space of Luton Town Football Club wearing that hat?

If yes - how appropriate. You should be the Hatter's mascot.

Nice cravat too.

I tend to wear exactly what I would for a days pheasant, duck shooting or beating. That doesn't involve tweed or ties but might occasionally include a shirt. It most definitely does include lots of green, waxed cotton and Hunter type wellies though. Pheasant shooting is getting less and less formal as the years drag by. The very big (and very expensive) estate shoots often still have rigid dress codes for the guns. However, when they are paying megabucks it's often a little difficult for them to be enforced.

Funny one this....don't want to lower the tone but in years to come will there be much barbel angling about?

Love the cloths Mark....love it but I don't know what to call it?

My own garments are now fancy walking lightweight and army stuff....

Attire....I wouldnt worry about your appropriate clothing for the Barbel fishing as I don't think..... unless we get are arses into gear they'll be many around.

Anyone understand...no offence! :D

You were told previously about the air rifle..now I must deal with the topper. This unfortunate combination of morning dress and hunting attire really isn't the done thing out in the Shires my good chap. A decent cap, I would recommend Hanna of Donegal, would set the ensemble of with much more style.
However you are to be congratulated on the 'kerchief, an elegant piece of practical apparel to keep the neck warm and wipe the hands clean without showing the blood stains.
Keep up the good work and hope to see you once again in Britain's best fashion magazine.

He shot some poor GI for those spats during WW2, poor bugger is still lying in a ditch somewhere near Luton :D

I always think he looks like an extra from one of the bar scenes in Oliver.

My winter fishing gear is presently based around ski wear, good if you're active, good if you're sitting around drinking mulled wine and cheap in the TKMax sale at the moment.

Hi men ,

I had to have a re-think on my dress code after last season . I was lucky enough to get a guest ticket on a stretch of the Kennet , and we know it runs though ROYAL Berkshire . We planned to meet our Friend at the car park that was full of Mercedes / BMW,s , and he was waiting with the gates open . We pulled up looking for all the world like the Clampits , smoke poreing from the hotel Vectra , red Teme mud covered everthing, you could not even see out of the side windows , and our gear was sorted for a days roving ( no chairs , min gear , and all covered in mud ). Their gear had all nice sleaves , rucksacks , imaculate , and even used chairs to sit on .

It was obvious we had to change , and I hope I know blend in better , but the Mercedes will have to wait . Trouble is we get funny looks on the Teme now :D.

Ade Williams in ski apparel? Ade Williams - Man of Action, delivering chocolates to beautiful women in far flung isolated chalets before escaping the armed guards? Nope, can't see it myself.

I see you more in your summer wear y' know, the long khaki shorts and pith helmet :D

The Chairman on Wednesday

Speaking of which, here is a snap of Jim Corbett, the famous man-eater (I know all about them) killer and keen mahseer-fisher taking a break with a gasper back in camp.

As ever,

Chaps ,
When out on shooting outings Im happy to wear breeks and collar and tie, personally I like the traditional look, i dont mind where I go however we know it dosent make us better anglers and just as all the best quality stuff in the world wont catch us more fish, but it can show to others that we have a sense of pride when out hunting our chosen quarry as well as a good sense of humour. !

On a recent perch outing on private estate lake i turned out in a shirt and tie, some of you would think .. well what a tit.. well so be it... but I felt it was in keeping with the occasion and surroundings.

To all that know me im free to have the **** taken out of me at any time at least youre leaving a someone else alone !!! :)

Great clothes Mark !!!!!!

all the best
