I've had something similar in the past, rather than try and pull the hook back out, i sliced the bit of skin over the hook.

P.S. I now use Gripz, not as, a just in case. But i really like the hooks for what they are.

I flattened the barb and pulled it out the same way it went in
But I was attached to a double on the other rod with this in my thumb
