Anyone thought "JUST GO FISHING"? rather than moan too much!

Been Barbel fishing for two years after re-joining the angling fraternity only 6 years previous, but after being persuaded by my brother to "fish the Severn for a Barbel" I am totally hooked and changed my entire approach even at over 50 yrs of age. (Just caught my first Grayling recently and they wonderful too). Been member of this site for nearly a year and read some posts with interest as they help my limited knowledge, read some posts which made me laugh out loud and have come across some post which I read with incredulity.
Surely the idea of the site is to "have fun", "pass on help" "be sociable" and "give advice" and not to "criticise" and "cast aspersions"; oh how low that idea seems recently.
So; deep intact of breath, glug of a glass of Merlot in hand, and say, how about a thread of "Just go Fishing" with comments on what happened?

I start:
Monday: One rod roving went on River Dane and caught 2 Chub on Maggots early on but zero for 4hrs after; got wet
Tuesday: River Dee and fished two rods, Barbel rod with garlic spam was zero, but maggot feeder on lighter rig got me 8 Grayling between just under a pound to biggest at 2lb 1oz, and felt like a small Barbel with its spirited fight (only caught a Grayling less than 3 weeks ago).
Thursday: Probably the Severn at Shrewsbury, Garlic Spam amd Liver flavoured boilies but a few maggots left over!

Its a start surely.........

Mark :)

Typical newbie on here, I went fishing rather than hang on behind a screen attitude ...phhhhhhh.

Welcome and nearly a year......lurker

Apparently I have to own up to some fishing induced near insolvency and the hints about
• Go to the Severn and catch a Barbel
and then
• Its cold so why not try the Dee for Grayling?

And last summer, he bowls across to Yorkshire where I guest him and he catches a Yorkshire Derwent Barbel at the first attempt. At lesat my River Rye Grayling is bigger than his Dee PB, but probably not for long.

well done mark,
grayling a beautiful fish , good choice of rivers

You need to be a bit more thankful that you have still got some fish to fish for Mark, with lots of others on BFW and around the UK doing the dirty and donkey work moaning, groaning and actively complaining to the authortities and making anglers and the public aware just to keep the rivers alive for you to fish! Sorry, but that is my opinion and times have changed from just sitting on the fence and ignoring the facts that rivers, fish and virtualy eveything riverine is 'At Risk' in this day and age. However, you are nearly correct with the title but should be slightly changed to 'Just Go Fishing ...while you still can!
Your idea of a catch thread is already here on BFW on the 'river reports' pages where they are usually posted!

A most interesting post. Let's hope that other contributors take a like minded approach and add details of their sessions. Should make for fascinating reading.

moaning to the authorites, moaning to the EA, campaigning to improve the rivers is not my message in this post, however they and other are all to be applauded and doubly encouranged. My thoughts were with anglers just criticising and doubting all on sundry on general angling issues; but as ever people will and maybe I should have just kept quiet.
As for "River Reports", check the last River Dane report, not really upto date and the River Dee well more recent but last year, River Severn, well recently mainly about Pike but interesting. See people do not want to spread any general and positive/negative news about just going fishing, well rarely.
Its not all good news as I have had only one Barbel since October 2011 and I have tried, really have tried. And will keep trying........

Mark...Moaning, criticising and alternative views on the threads has always been part and parcel of BFW since it started and the moderators have kept it in check. Everyone has been given the right to do so by Andy so as long as it aint over the top. Basically, if a thread don't interest someone (and there are plenty i ignore) then you just avoid them and don't go there if they annoy or are totally boring!
Another section thread idea would be 'Get it off your Chest' like, where it could be for compulsive Moaners... like me of course.
Best Regards

Sounds to me like you are moaning and criticising yourself, Mark ;):D

Nice to read your fishing reports though, I always enjoy reading about what others are up to :)
