An Interesting Bite and Fight??

I am ruling out a fairly hooked "massive"(Alex) barbel.:D That was a big Pike though Chris. Has anyone else had a similar experience??

Well, on the final day of the season, fishing the Wye, I had a similar experience. Fishing pellet I had a solid bite and off the baitrunner went. When I lifted into the fish and the clutch cut in the fish just kept going and going and took a good third of a spool of line on what was a fairly tight clutch and 12lb line. It also felt unbelievably heavy. When it stopped and I tried to apply pressure, tightening the clutch as much as I dare, off it went again taking more line. I could feel the fish moving across the river but was powerless to turn or do anything with it. This went on for 30 minutes as I tried all sorts of things to gain line and move the fish. In the end the hook pulled. I am thinking foul hooked something and possibly pike.

Certainly put my money on a Salmon Howard, probably foul hooked too.
