Congratulations to the captor!

it's been a right cracker down there this weekend, alot of good fish caught.
via twitter, quite a few double barbel have come out.

Amazing? I thought it was going to be a 19lb+ by the headline not a 16 which usually comes out! Congrats to captor though, he must have been well chuffed.

Unusual catches so far in 2011, 29lb + Salmon on Luncheon Meat, 17lb 8oz Barbel on the fly, and 11lb 14oz Bass on dead bait.
via twitter.

History

All 3 examples have happened before at various times and claimed weights, although bass have been taken on luncheon meat as well! The first 2 are quite common occurances. It is tidal right up to the top Gt.Weir so salmon, sea trout, sea lamprey, bass and flatfish etc are seen and often caught by coarse anglers and even seals are known to frequent the place but probably a bit rarer and harder to catch.:)

Saw these captures on Facebook Royalty Fishery. Wonderful fish, not so sure about the seals tho' Ray!

I had a Seal pop up next to me when I was wading on The Royalty, I was standing in the streamer weed, trotting between the trammelling weed and I suppose it just did not see me, blasted thing frightened the life out of me, I could have tapped it on the head with my rod tip.

Everyone told me the Seal was probably as scared as me, to be fair I seriously doubt that!!

It equals the fishery record so is pretty amazing, in my opinion!

To be fair any fish of over 14lb is pretty amazing (well they are for me), so a very well done from me to the captor.

When I was a lad the record was 14lb 6oz, stood for years, it was my dream to catch one even close to that magical weight!

I have been lucky enough to get the odd big fish and the magic has never diminished and to be honest I hope it never does.

We have been very lucky to have fished at a time when such big fish have been available, truly a golden age of Barbel angling!

I hope it lasts, but I suspect it won’t, as all things seem to come to an end eventually.
