If you want 'doubles' rather than quantity don't really think the Wye would be the venue, although there is the odd double at times, the Red Lion at Bredwardine is well thought of at Hay on Wye, you might be able to secure the services of a certain John Bailey to show you the way too.:)

Apart from this I can't help you more, as I normally see caravans and give them a wide berth...:D

Thanks Neil,
for the reply.
I would rather have our own place for a holiday. Dont want to stay at a pub.
We like our own space and take loads of tackle :)
Can anyone suggest anywhere? Does not have to be the Wye?
thanks again John

Lucksall Park caravan site on the Wye, there's also a site on the Teme at little Hereford and plenty others I'm sure.

Try Dave Burr, he know the river like the back of his hand and is always very forthcoming with his advise.

The Red Lion is a lovely place to stay and too fish, i spent about eight years travelling to and fro to fish there.

Thanks for all the advice so far.

Can anyone suggest any accommodation at any other rivers for the chance of big barbel?

Needs to be nice as I am taking the wife :)

cheers

John,
You could try the Trent plenty of doubles in this river, the Ribble has a few to, in fact thinking about it every river that contains barbel have doubles in them.If you want a holiday base yourself some where in the midlands. You then have access to many rivers Pitlands Farm at Clifton upon Teme is a good base with good pubs and fishing nearby.
Good luck

Hi David,
thanks for the help but I am aware of the rivers that contain some doubles but not aware of the ones that have some accommodation to rent on there banks,

thank you :)

Id like a pm with any info on the Wye please - I have stayed at Flanesford before but they have now let W&UF rent the river and it is so busy - Id like somemwhere remote with river acess if there such a thing - self catering

Also any stretches that allow for the whole beat to be booked would be nice but not W&U

Cheers All

Me and two others went to the pub mentioned (red lion) for b and b to catch on the wye as used by 'experts'.Several barbel were caught but the general opinion was that the fishing was better on the swale back home. This b and b is close to top barbel anglng with a better than average chance of a double.
Come and enjoy a break on our mixed farm by the banks of the River Swale in rural North Yorkshire | Cundall Lodge Farm
p.s I have no connection with this accommodation neither will I benefit fom mentioning it. It is day ticket water close to waters that I personally have had several double figure barbe from

John - why the focus on doubles? I would have thought the challenge of finding fish of that size was the motivation, and catching them the icing on the cake. A 9lb fish fights just as hard as a 10lb-er.

Anyway, whatever floats your boat I suppose.

Hi Richard

simple answer is I would rather fish a river which had a few doubles rather than packed with singles a bit like when I was Carp fishing. I would fish a 55 acre lake containing 80 good fish. I didnt get much of a challenge from fishing places like Cudmore.

Neil,

The accomodation is because its a holiday which includes my wife. She would rather pi55 at a toilet than in the bushes :D

Regards ;)
