ABF/HKS/Bradford No1 fish-in River Trent this weekend

Hello all, apologies for the short notice but........

In association with Barnsley and District Angling Association, the Horsefield Knights Society and a fair few lads from Bradford No.1, the Association of Barbel Fishers would like to extend an invitation to all to join in our charity fish-in on the famous Fiskerton fishery on the river Trent this coming weekend. The event is in aid of the Barnsley Hospice, a charity chosen by B & D.A.A. and one dear to me personally as it is where my late father spent his last days.

The fishery is available from first light on Friday 9th September until Midnight on Sunday 11th September. We have pegs from 20-85 booked and there are 35 people confirmed as attending so far.

A few weeks ago we extended the event and as it has been so well subscribed and have decided to go the whole hog and take the numbers up to a maximum of 50.

Any beginners should not feel discouraged as plenty of help will be on hand especially during daylight hours.

Other attractions include an authentic curry (Bradford connection) and a prize raffle on Saturday afternoon which is the main day. The event is intended to be a social one, however the fishery is excellent and lots of fish will be caught. Those who like fishing a stick float will find it particularly rewarding as there are some cracking roach, chub and Perch around at the moment.

Costs are £3 for a daylight ticket and £6 for a night ticket, all proceeds to charity.

Thanks to Andy for allowing us to post this and please help us to support this worthwhile cause.

Regards

Conrad

Good luck to everyone. I hope it's as good as last year but with a little less debris coming down the river.;) Shame I'm working.:(

Conrad,

Wish i could make it but i'm on the Thames then - good luck with the event.

cheers conrad i be down mid afternoon friday with a few more bradford lads. please leave a few pegs nearest carpark for the not so able-bodied guests and fat idle lads like me:D looking forward to the get together and a proper curry :)

Hi Michael, I'll be down Friday evening all being well. The way these things work we always look after the fatties and the infirm as I have a natural bias towards them (cos I'm one).

You lads will be the first to arrive anyway, but if you find anyone who is not supposed to be there in your comfy swims explain that they need to be on pegs 1-20. Give me a call if any problems.

Not sure what you are expecting but there are loads of pegs and most of it is barrow or trolley friendly.

Really enjoyed the fish-in last year Conrad (despite all the weed).
Lovely stretch of river and would love to fish there again, but unfortunately just too-short notice for me.
Hope you all have a great time whilst raising money for a worthy cause :)

Thanks Mark, I think that the weed will not be an issue this year looking at the forecast. Hopefully a few will be tempted.

Weed has been a major factor over the last week or so with the Trent and various other places.

I fished the area on Friday evening and found very little weed coming down. Mind you the week before there had been loads as the river was up a little for the first time in ages. There is not any heavy sustained rain forecast so things should stay the same as they are at the moment.

I would have been there BUT I have been invited Fluff Flinging on the River Test
(water clear as Gin and twice as expensive) so I must decline!!

I WILL be up for future fish -ins (can you get a water with lots of float swims?)

All the best mate, I know it will be a successes.
:):):):)

Hi Keith, I think that we will be having another fish-in on there, you'd have a blast for sure. A float fisher of your ability would have an 'interesting' time.

Oh and despite being from oop North I do know all about the River Test and I do spot of fluff flinging myself.

Thanks for the good wishes and I'll see you soon.

Today is the first day and we have 40 anglers turning up over the weekend. Many are just coming to fish for a few hours on Saturday so there will be plenty of room left. If anyone wants to turn up on the day either today or Saturday then do so, we have 10 places left.

Hope to see some of you down there, even if you can't fish pop down and say hello - it's a social after all.

Conrad

Hi Conrad - sorry I can't make the fish in. I'm on the Ribble in a fortnight and can't swing another with the other half. I hope you all catch a few nice fish......

The fishing was OK for those who walked upstream a bit but as a fundraiser and social event it went very well. I don't have the exact figures yet but we raised over £900 for the Barnsley Hospice which is more than we expected.

Rich I was hoping to go to the Ribble too but it is our annual Wye weekend 24-26th September.

Thanks especially to Dan Birkett and the Bradford No. 1 lads, they made it all happen. Also thanks to B&DAA who donated the stretch for the entire weekend.

The curry was grand too..........
