A Discussion point

Graham, I don't necessarily agre,e that big fish tend to stick around an upper Trent fish of almost 14 has been caught in 4 different swims covering 8 miles of river, the weight varied from 13-3 to 13-14.
I do see where your coming from though. If these clubs are struggling for revenue (highly unlikely where I go, but one never knows) they could well let a stretch go syndicate or unless they have a long agreement with the owner of the stretch, he/she could sell for the big buck. Who knows what will happen. Our beloved barbel is now a much sought after species with more specialist anglers seeking her year after year so who can predict.

On the rugby front we may be out of Europe but we are still top of the Premiership. Fishing whats that haven't been since October. We moved house in December and have undertaken a renovation project. Wife's idea but I let her go ahead to take her mind of things. Must say this little two bedroom bungalow now looks the dogs b's.

I believe the AGM for the FAS, was this mentioned at all?

I could not be there so any news would be appreciated.

Many thanks

The only piece of coarse river fishing that I, in my limited experience, have seen 'go-private' was the Black Bull stretch below Topcliffe.

That's an interesting stretch too, for a few reasons. I recall it being one of the very best sections of the river and it was incredibly popular. I had my best ever days fishing on there a year or two before it went syndicate. A couple of barbel, six bream over 5lb and a couple of dog roach at 2 and 2.5lb respectively was, and still is, for me, the stuff of dreams. However, what little information that comes out of the stretch these days rarely seems positive. I see fewer and fewer people actually fishing it year on year and hear more and more moans about the relative lack of fish. I've even heard moans that water up and down stream (Cundall day ticket water being a case in point, the amount of anglers and bait going there is daft at times) is now more prolific. I'd speculate that the decreasing amount of bait going in that stretch compared to years gone by must have had an impact on the stretch's ability to hold fish . It's struck me as being a possible example of being careful what you wish for.

Perhaps I've got it all wrong though and these overheard conversations and heresay aren't indicative of what's really going on there. After all, it is a syndicate that generally plays things close to its chest. I'd still love to get on there but do wonder if there is actually much point these days. I doubt that I'll ever really get to know the truth and it's unlikely that I'll ever get to know for myself or that someone will spill the beans publicly.

I notice that in the minutes nothing was said about Carters Hill.

I have also noticed that the Venue does not appear on the fishery list for the FAS.

What is going on?
