32" triangle net

Thanks for the replies il get the iq 30" I think is the mesh suitable for the easy flow of the river? THANKS

Just to clarify matters on the Middy net as there have been several versions:

The net I have is the original Middy 'Barbel' 30+ net, not to be confused with their standard 30+ net, which had weaker arms and wasnt upto the job of landing good barbel or carp (a mate fell foul of this)!

The original net had many fans on here and was always recommended in any net discussions. Middy discontinued the net a couple of years back, and quite a few were chasing round trying to locate any remaining stock.

I contacted Middy and asked why they discontinued it, as IMHO it was the best barbel net available at the time. In reply they told me they'd replaced it with the Camo Strong Arm version, and they assured me that it was even stronger than the original; this I can only take their word for?

I too have the camo barbel net and can confirm it is very strong indeed, i'm a habitual net and handle breaker, so much so that i always took 2 nets and handles on a session - just in case - i haven't had to buy a net or handle since i purchased the Middy one when they came out in 2010. Whether it is stronger than the original i have no idea, having not owned one, but for me to have not broken it in a season and a half it must be pretty strong! The downside for me is it is heavy - especially on the end of their extending camo net handle. I get tackle envy when i pick up my mates JRC Specialist Plus net - it's super light, very easy to manouver - part of me hopes it breaks soon.

I also have the camo 30 plus and like Andy find it to deep and heavy to control, on the one occassion i used it as a weigh sling the dorsal got caught up in the net and i had to cut it out :(

It got some hammer last season though mate and stood up to it, i tried the Korum job and it was knackered 2 months into the season:mad:

I'll still be using mine simply because i can't break it! I wouldn't say the mesh was too deep either tbh, usefull for resting fish and swallowing up the occasional monster. I used to have a John Wilson net - the round 24" one, and the mesh on that was like a wind sock! Still, not many 24" net's you can fit a 20lb+ pike in! :D

If i was to buy a net right now - i would get a JRC Specialist Plus - i've tried one, and they are a joy to use - but i would keep my Middy net as back up. ;)

Is the Jrc as strong as the iq camo Andrew? And il mainly be Fishing the Tidal Trent so will need some good easy flow mesh

Cheers for the advice on the middy iq, just got it after a balls up by the tackle shop looks and feels a cracking net just need to wet it (rain won't count this weekend) :D

If ever you want some specific information, go on to the Cemex site, some of the guys on there are encylopedias of fishing tackle.

Wayne I use the IQ on the Thames with a Drennan pole - looks good ...just need a fish to see if it works :D Had a Chris Brown but someone took a liking to it it was not so hot in raging water on the Severn due to the mesh.

Cheers Paul, Iv matched mine up with the same pole I love the twist lock solid net and solid handle just same as you need a fish in it lol.

Do the arms of the net detach from the spreader block? I know a lot of triangle nets do so and this would suit me if it does.

With the best will in the world you really shouldn't be weighing Barbel in a landing net.

Well Simon surely after you have rested the fish in the net and set your scales, I can't think of a less stressful way of weighing your fish, to transfer from net to sling is only going to enhance a problem in waiting.
I have only had one occasion when the dorsal fin snagged, and to cut the net is the best if not the cheapest option :)
Let's face it slings/are a carp thing, the carp can withstand longer periods out of the water than Barbel, so for me weighing in the net is best for the Barbel.

Regarding the fox barbel 32 inch specialist net, i have heard it said that its to small from the net cord to the spreader block any thoughts net users? Plus maybe the mesh size is to small....

I am more than happy with the iq I know for a fact it's going to get wet this weekend :D four nights fishing in constant rain but not gunna catch anything watching coronation street :D
