2.25lb rods, which won’t break the bank?

Wouldn't touch those Duo Lite's with the proverbial barge pole. Both my 1.75 tips broke for no apparent reason under minimal strain and reel fittings on both came loose and flopped to the side.
Hi all
I've always rated Fox products especially their rods and lines and hooks!
I Brought a second hand pair of Fox Duo FX rods about 10 years ago, but unfortunately I managed to reverse over them! I claimed on my house insurance and put a wanted add on here to which a BFW member offered me a pair which I've used ever since and have had no issue with. The good thing is that I ended up with spare top sections, so just in case I do smash one I've got spares!
Also I have been using the carbon arms from a fox landing net for about 15 years and it's still going strong. Have had some massive fish in it including a brace of 15's last season (resting the first fish in the net and had the second one about 10 minutes later)
The Fox Duo FX is a quality Blank built e a 3 k and 1k carbon just like the Chimeras

Compared to my new Drennan Barbel I think I prefer the Omega personally. Having a play with one in the store it feels slightly better balanced in the hand, blanks are slimmer, it's slightly lighter than the Drennan and for me I prefer the faster action on the Omega. I get the feeling korum have now got themselves known for their cheaper rods which sell very well like the Barbel and Allrounder and rods like the omega are not received well, another product they will probably discontinue soon.

I trawled through a few of the Barbel related Facebook pages yesterday, which I normally avoid like the plague. A search on the Guru Barbel rods, claimed the rods are built on Daiwa blanks and a few first hand experiences claimed the rods had snapped low down on the cast. One guy who worked in a tackle shop also claimed they’d had a number of broken rods returned. Problems appeared to be with the twin tip 1.75lb TC model, but it’s not filling me with confidence.

Another thing that struck me from searching is I can’t find anyone who uses the Korum Omegas.
I guess powermesh is the best option here if you can get around with the guides.

People may used to associate Korum staff with low price, hence not willing to pay for the omega? But at 70, what could go wrong?

if you are not looking for a pair, how about free spirit ctx 2.25? Bit out of your budget, around 170, but it also comes with a quiver tip section (no idea why).

If you are not in a hurry, I would look for some old Harrison rods. Ballista/GTI rods come up for sale regularly and they can be very cheap. Any of those in 2lb, 2.25 or even 2.5 would be fine.

Even Chimeras (my favourite) can be had at knockdown prices. I’ve got some 12ft 2.5’s that are nice and they were just over 50 quid each. Only the 2.25 ones fetch reasonable money.

If you want a project; I have a pair of super rare Paul Boote Cougar rods (Century/Rod Hutchinson blanks) but they need a decent rebuild.

The Ted Carter winter rod for sale in the classifieds is very good..it's built on the Harrison Standard Specialist blank which is highly rated by many anglers including rod builder Dave Lumb:

A bargain for £160 in that condition.

Hi all
Excuse my previous post!
Anyhow what about a second hand pair of Fox Duo lite FX twin tips - 1.75 & 2.25lbs.
I have had Chimera and now prefer the Fox Duo FX with a stiffer but section. Don't like the build on the newer Fox X4
Regards Wayne
I would go one further I have a pair of 12ft Fox Duo Lite FX 2.75lb Specimen rods which I use for punching out big feeders on big rivers. My knee jerk response would be 2.75lb is over gunned for barbel rods but test curves are only ever a guide and these rods are close to perfect IMHO and helped me get over the upset of breaking my Peregrine Mk1 Flood Rod.

The other thing is you don't see many of these rods for sale on ebay (no longer available new) which might be a sign that others agree.

If you’re local to an angling direct try them. Mine has the guru in stock so you could have a look before you buy. They seem a nice rod for the money.

The original korum neoteric twin tip rods with 1.75 and 2.2 tops are great rods.

A pair on sale on marketplace

Nothing to do with me, as I'm keeping my three rods fir big pit tenching(as well as barbel fishing 😁).
