    Hexagraph rod build

Thanks Robert, I was tempted when I read of Just another Anglers hexagraph builds, even more tempted now. Problem is I won’t have time to use it!

    Hexagraph rod build

Hi Robert, looks good. I’m aware others have done this and I was tempted too. What line weight was the original rod? Can you still feel it’s fly rod parentage when you give it a waggle? Is that what you mean when you say full full parabolic action? I built a 10ft light float rod from a whisker...

    Carp landing net

@Richard Lea thanks for your opinion, I have used TB online for a while now, currently building a rod from one of their Darrent Valley specialist blanks. But Ihave never been to their shop, so I have not seen any of their own brand nets. Good to hear that you are pleased with their product...

    Carp landing net

Hi Nigel thanks for your post. Good to have a recommendation, hope to spend less, but in the end I’ll pay what I have to to get a reliable solution.

    Carp landing net

Hi Steve, thanks for the offer but I’m about two and a half hours away on the south coast. There are a number for sale down here just hoping someone suggests some of the brands I’ve seen are good ones. I think lots of anglers/non anglers try carp fishing but then give up, so lots of kit around.

    Carp landing net

I need to buy a 42inch landing net for carp fishing, I don’t want to spend a great deal since I won’t be doing a great deal of carp fishing. But I do need to buy one that won’t fall to pieces. Has anyone got any advice, ones to buy, ones to avoid, old ones that offer good value secondhand. Many...

    Cork vs Duplon

IMO Around the reel seat, always natural cork. Predominantly natural cork on rods that need to be light. Where the rod does not need to be light decorative reconstituted cork is OK. Duplon is marmite to me, never really tried it but I don’t like it!

    Rodbuilding: Harrison Chimera 3

I only build rods for myself, so not many, so I’m interested to see how you get on. If you can get a picture of the rod under tension I would be interested to see it. Be careful that you don’t apply a point load to the blank when you apply loads to the rod, you don’t want to break it during...

looks good, looking forward to seeing it as the build progresses.

    Rodbuilding: Harrison Chimera 3

I don’t fully understand the choices of ring sizes. Looking at the theory behind Fuji K type rings the position and size of the first ring should be related to the reel in use. I think the K type rings were developed for shorter spinning rods. I’m not aware of guidance from Fuji for carp and...

    Shimano float rod question

I managed to get my 14ft triple x off facebay for 25 it is mint and with its original rod sleeve in similar condition. There are so few sold, sometimes the seller does not know what they might sell for. I did not know they could fetch over 100! I think my 13 ft was about that new, a tidy sum...

    Shimano float rod question

I have both the 13 and 14ft triple x. I have had the 13ft from new and it has been a very good rod. I have had the 14ft for about a year and not used it yet! As @Neil Smart mentioned these rods have spliced tips. There are not that many around so similar to Silstar diaflex match rods not many...

The best thing you’ve seen whilst fishing

There have already been posts showing the great abilities of deer. But while fishing a clay pit a deer fell off the top of the pit and tumbled down perhaps 25ft of almost sheer clay. They are not all elegant and agile. Seemed a bit confused for a while but moved off without any apparent damage.

What is it with match anglers and fish care … 😡

Specialist anglers and pleasure anglers are often not in public view when fishing I’m sure bad practices go unseen. Match anglers are more likely to be seen. Joe Public may not see anything wrong with the way that fish was handled, we obviously do. It is important that anglers have high...

    Harrisons GTI 15ft mk2 SU.

Hi Jim looks a fantastic rod, really like buzzard rods building. That burgundy thread they use on the Matt carbon finish looks great. Although my old 14ft rebuild is not directly comparable a comparison may reveal some of the improvements Harrison’s have made. When comparing weights, mine were...

    Harrisons GTI 15ft mk2 SU.

I refurbished a very old 14ft GTI SU a while ago, and when I stripped it and ground the blank it came in at 153g so 124g for the blank of a 15ft rod is quite an improvement.

Kingfisher Chub Specialist Rod - Peregrine Build - SOLD

If you want an 11ft chub rod I’ll throw another curved ball in. Darrent valley 12oz specialist. This sounds too light but the rod behaves like an Avon it’s only the fine tip that gives the 12oz test curve. I have the 1.4lb (1lb 6oz) Avon and a second tip with a 3oz quiver. The Darrent Valley...

    New rod.

Two of each! They must be generally well liked, they don’t come up on the secondhand market that much in either the standard or stepped up form. I see you use two rods on the Avon. When I fished the Avon, mostly at Ibsley I never felt that I could use two rods, the swims seemed too small. I...

    New rod.

I am presently considering buying an 11ft Torrix 1.75lb specialist blank. I have previously brought the Harrison Avon 1.4lb and nice it is, although the through action makes it feel a little soft in the strike. It works fine really, but by the time I have taken up the bow in the line and the rod...

Advice needed for custom power float rod

Jim, All of the advice I seen Richard give is very sound, he obviously particularly knowledgeable when it comes to trotting for large fish with longer rods. From my experience additional rings, particularly small ones won’t weigh a lot.
