Yes Chris most of the time I’m fishing standard running rigs with a supple braid hooklink, maybe 10- 12 inches that’s what I used on the wandle catching over silt. Funnily enough the few o had from the Thames were on semi fixed inline leads with fluoro hooklinks! Not ideal for softer bottoms...
One of my local stretches of the wandle is nothing but silt! Very slow stretch compared to others… caught plenty in the soft stuff over the years.
Also had a few from the Thames early autumn this year again over soft bottom whilst blanking on my other rod which was fished on gravel.
In the last week I’ve had a size 10 gardner target barbel hook open out on me whilst playing a fish which I lost, then a few days later a size 10 gardner talon tip snap! Just above the barb again resulting in a lost fish!!
I’ve gone back to the korda wide gape x in size 10 and will be sticking...
I can’t see it, the target barbel I’m sure is a finer wire hook. Used the wide gape talon tips for years with not one issue. Went out this eve had 4 barbel. First 3 were 2 9lbers and a smaller one hooked and landed fine on the target 10s, 3rd bite was clearly a bigger fish, after a proper scrap...
Yeah that’s a pain. Both were out of stock in the tackle I went in, luckily the guy who works there gave me a packet of the barbel hooks in 10s out of his own tackle box. I think I still prefer the wide gape talon tips though
My favourite hook in recent years. Unfortunately out of stock in size 10 everywhere. I was told gardner haven’t had the 10s for a long time. Maybe being replaced by the Gardner target barbel hook?
Just after some recommendations for decent, well made auger/ PowerPoint type banksticks.
The old Fox cam lock/ power point sticks were perfect for what I want but as with everything in fishing they’ve long been discontinued andhave brought out similar but not as well made versions. I bought the...
The original ones were really popular but after seeing a mates one up close, for me at least, the mesh was way too shallow. No good for resting a barbel in the edge whilst sorting mat/ scales etc. hopefully they’ve made them deeper this time.
