I have this rod, purchased in the 80’s.Used it for stalking small carp on my local canal. Its just stuck in the garage somewhere, didn’t even consider putting on the rack in my tackle room.At £75,I think I’d better go look for it.
To me,it’s like playing a fish on the proverbial stick of...
I have the Fox Eos 11’ 1.75. barbel rod.It suits my needs on the little river that I fish.On the Photos of river scenes thread, that’s the rod In the photo on the Idle.
I’ve a video of it in action while playing a 5lb+ chub, unfortunately I can’t put it on here.
On this river, all it gets is an...
Here is three maps of the Trent on the Scunthorpe ticket that may help you Michael.Telling you which part of the banks you can and can’t park behind your swim.Besthorpe,Girton and South Clifton.
I had a barbel on the Trent take a large spinner bait, and on the Idle I’ve had one one a soft plastic crayfish intended for perch.
And caught one intentionally on a chunk of lamprey.
I fish small cranks for chub and perch, but not had a follow from a barbel as far as I know.
Thanks for that, very interesting. As bailiff on the River Idle I know that that Idle record is out of date,
But if people don’t report their catches there’s not a lot we can do about it.
That’s what I’ve been using for a while now.Nick the hook in the bag,and then it’s easy to drop the lot in the gaps in the streamer weed.
They have been out of stock at my usual stores,so thanks for that link.
Now I find that very interesting.Food for thought over using straight point hooks with a kicker, while I‘m using wide gape with an inturned beak.
I don’t necessarily need an inturned point,as the river bed I fish is mainly sandy rather than stones.
I’ve never used kickers or quick stops, the stops...
I use Gripz wide gape, not the cheapest of hooks, but it’s buy 4 packs get the 5th.free.But you are talking pence, when you think what you spend on other tackle.
I’ve used Gripz for at least the last three seasons. And rate them very highly.I fish a small weedy river, and have not lost a fish due to hook failure. The barbel and chub more often than not bury them selves into the streamer weed, and I can slowly slacken off letting them swim out without losing...
To get a night fishing permit with Scunthorpe AA,you now have to be a member for two years, and be registered on Clubmate.
All to do with not wanting a big influx of ex Collingham anglers.
Still a great value ticket for all the Trent stretches that we have.
I don’t know how I didn’t notice carrying up the bank in my gear,I know they are harmless, but if it had shown itself I still would have had a shock. As I said, thank goodness it came out before I put it in the car.Can you imagine driving down the motorway and it appears on your shoulder 😄
