Morning All I'm hoping to have a few days fishing somewhere different next week, weather and river levels allowing if course. Could anyone point me in direction of free or day ticket stretches of the Thames where there's a chance of of chub or two ? It's not somewhere I've ever fished and a a...

History of the older Drennan Avon rods

Going back maybe thirty years they did an 11 foot three piece Avon with detachable butt. The Mk1 was very tippy and powerful. Mk2 was completely different, ultra soft, bit floppy for my liking. Still got it though as "might come in handy".

    Drennan Super Specialist Barbel Hooks

Yeah, small sizes fine for me too. I contacted Drennan. Bloke just said that he'd used them for years without a problem and " the larger sizes are more likely to open up because the gape is wider ".

    Drennan Super Specialist Barbel Hooks

I've used these in small sizes for years and never had a problem. Always impressed with strength for their size. Tonight used a packet of size 6 and had two small fish open them up and four others lose their piint on first fish. Anyone else had any issues ?

    France

Hi All, Looking at a trip to France having a dabble here and there in September. I've fished the Ardeche, Tarn and one or two others seven or eight years ago, but not recently. Anyone done any good on any other French rivers ? Wouldn't say no to chub and carp either. Not worried about big fish...

    Grumpy old curmudgeons look away....

My mate caught a cod in the spring with a lamprey attached to it. It had burrowed a few mm into the flesh and was very difficult to remove. Not a cudley creature.
