    My Season is over :(

I spoke to a friend a couple of days ago, his wife, severely disabled son and himself were amongst the first to get the Pfizer jab. He told me they had very close contact with someone who was a bit rough and the next day had Covid confirmed. Non of them got any symptoms and non of them came...

    The state of our rivers

I was helping to film a small bit about removing Floating Pennywort on a mates stretch of the Colne today with Countryfile. I pulled my first rake full of Pennywort out to find it was saturated with raw sewage and stunk to high heaven. Needless to say the filming was done from a distance...

Very Sad. Demise of the Barbel. Ribble

When all of your Barbel disappear and someone says 'it could not have been Otters because we would have seen the bodies' remember this video. With their swim bladder and organs gone Barbel sink and are never seen again. What a disaster for any stretch of river. I wonder how many other bodies...

    So....How far is ‘local’ then?

I asked an angler for his Permit last week he had travelled 19 miles, most are local. I kept quiet but did warn him we now sometimes get British Transport Police on a bridge over our Fishery checking people. The Bridge is the boundary of Middlesex and Bucks and lots of walkers use it.

    Avon Scales Repairs

Metroweigh 0208 787 7080 was the company that took over Avon but not cheap around £30 plus the postage . Unless its a rare 8lb set you could probably buy a pair cheaper. They are very simple to strip down and it is probably worth taking apart yourself and then spraying with a lubricant or...

    Waterlogged

This is one of two flooded entrances to an HS2 environmentally friendly protester camp on the West London Fishery I try to look after. Think they should not have built on a flood plane. I keep trying to explain 200 +pallets possibly treated with insecticide is not a good thing in a wet...

    River Chess raw sewer dumping

Thames Water have a terrible record I thought the Chess was bad but look at what they sent into the Wye in Wcombe in 2019

    River Chess raw sewer dumping

For years Graham that was what everyone was being told and it may have been so in the past .But I did a fair bit of digging and managed to get the answer. Eden Spring take all the vast amounts of sweet chalk aquifer water from West Hyde they supply those big water coolers to offices all over...

    River Chess raw sewer dumping

If you were a member of the FB group it went to the link Graham, if not you could join to see it. Thames water dumped sewage over 70 days last year into the Chess at Chesham. The year before Maple Lodge the next STW downstream dumped more than Chesham. All covered up by the EA by manipulating...

    Photos of river scenes

A wonderful Spawning side stream on the Colne in West London last Spring. Sadly now HS2 have a compound and access road 50 m on the right and there is a large filthy protester camp on the opposite bank below the small bridge.

    Dead baiting.

Sorry Richard but after posting that fine example can you please explain how its wrapped. Do you up and down then wrap over and then go back through the wire at the bottom ?

    Crucians only

Hope you get a few, this is what they used to be like. You can see my pole in the background I never used it at length. It had to be ready if a better Tench was hooked and ran too far. Normally it was 4 sections of pole or less. If you have a long rod it should be ok

    Crucians only

When plumbing up I found a depression in front of every swim on Harris when the complex opened. I used to plumb up and then put the pontoon over the depression. Not sure if a pontoon is allowed these days though. The Bailiff said that when they dug the lake the margins were too shallow for...

    Crucians only

I caught a lot of very big Crucians at Marsh farm when it first opened fishing double caster under a small pole float. There was no cover at the time so I created my own. Two 9ft rod tubes were connected by 3 rows of 3 dustbin bags. My 'pontoon' was then floated out from the margin and staked in...

    Quiver tipping for chub

Oliver, it would not make much difference if you are fishing heavy tackle like 4lb line and a 16 hook and getting bites and fish. But when your bites dry up and your chub become a bit educated or wary finessing everything is often the way to go. A Chub pulling a hook home against a heavy feeder...

    Quiver tipping for chub

Sorry the dink dink is a different method again to the inline black cap with short hook length. Its designed to take fish that are taking maggot coming down through the water and not going near a feeder. Your feeder is in a loop with the hook tied to the bit of line on the knot above the feeder...

    Quiver tipping for chub

Yep you have got it exactly, the starting point should always be a feeder that just holds bottom. You can often make a feeder that bounces along hold up by doubling the bow, its always a balancing act.

    Quiver tipping for chub

Because you are fishing a short hooklength and inline feeder you can get all sorts of bites. If you are fishing a bow, even after casting downstream, effectively you are fishing upstream (the bottom of the bow will often be below the feeder ). But you have to be consistent with your bow. It...

    Maggot/Groundbait Flavourings

I use Mainline Response pineapple flavour in my casters. I put about a cup full of water in a bait box then a few drops of Pineapple, stir it around and add the casters. I have changed from normal casters to flavoured a number of times and almost immediately started catching good Roach. Garlic...
