    Water temps

I keep an eye on temps but tend to follow the levels more keenly. As others have mentioned I favour a falling river level if possible but an evening on the bank beats an evening in front of the telly!

    Oxford day ticket stretch

The Thames is on the doorstep and pretty sure most of it will be free fishing. Bit further upstream from me so I can't help further but perhaps post on the river reports page for some local info?

    Feeding?

Short answer is yes, it is guesswork which is why quite a few have recommended a bait dropper. You can adapt or make your own to suit your needs - I fish the Thames and use one that can drop over a pint on the river bed. I use my spod rod due to the weight when the bait dropper is full, but...

2 x Greys Prodigy 2.5lb TC Carp / Barbel rods

2 original Greys Prodigy Carp rods 2.5lb TC I bought these to use as floodwater barbel rods on the Thames - they can chuck a 5oz lead plus a pva bag but still have a great action when playing fish although I can't say they did too much of that. Slight varnish fading at the top of a couple of...

Up or down, tight or slack ?

Rod position is always determined by the flow for me. The lower to the water I can get the rod the better as I'd prefer as much of the line to be on the bottom as possible. I use to 3-4 tungsten droppers around 18 inches apart on the mainline and fish a fairly slack line. I always fish shortish...

    Pre-baiting

I have a friend who lives on the Thames, probably half a mile at least away from 'public access' in either direction and who has had some success prebaiting boilies close in for the carp. I have to think that it has something to do with the lack of angling pressure, as Richard has alluded to above.

    New Thames Barbel Record????

Apologies. I read the blog and didn't realise it was a thread started in 2013, as Neil mentioned above it was someone posting yesterday that took it to the top! Should have checked more thoroughly!
