Hi Richard, it sounds like you have booked on the Newport stretches? I haven’t fished those I’m afraid so can’t help. I fished the bit that I believe is referred to as Lower Symonds Yat and is through Wye and Usk or Angling Dreams.
By far my favourite coated braid for barbel is the Gardner ultra skin super soft. I haven’t bought the esp stuff for years but never found it sat as smoothly as I would have liked, without steaming anyway. It does seem very popular though. I also like the Thinking Anglers tungskin but it only...
Just to clarify, I am not necessarily saying the swims immediately up and down of the suspension bridge. I know you asked for good swims but personally I think you should at least half earn your first barbel 😉
The last few years I’ve had too much going on, or been in places where getting to the bank is not something I can do every week.
So for this reason I’ve put a lot in to prep, or planning and choosing my time when the conditions are good and I can get a run of sessions together.
It would be...
I used to use mine a lot for light carp fishing with a 1.5oz lead and pva mesh bag tied to the lead. They were super accurate for me when doing that.
If I was buying again I’m not sure they would be my choice, though I haven’t given any thought to what would. I don’t think I’ll be coming south...
Hi Daniel
I’m glad you’re coming out the other side. Hopefully there’ll be a few nice tench for you this year.
I’ve got a pair of the SS12-204s and got the first one getting on for 15years ago. Then a few years later bought the second once I could afford it.
They don’t get as much use as...
I can’t pretend to be an expert on float rods, it might be brilliant for the price but I thought it felt horrible. I bought it on the basis of reading good reviews so I’m possibly in the minority.
I ordered one and sent it back, taking in to account return postage I only got £30ish back but I really didn't like it. In the hand, it felt to me unwieldily and floppy but I can't comment on how it would be with a fish on. I didn't even put a bend in it as I could tell I wasn't going to want to...
Well you wouldn’t on purpose, all I’m saying is that a factory build is a fairly generic spec that most people will find little serious fault with in use. Where as, it is possible to buy a used custom built rod off eBay and (if you don’t ask questions or the description is vague) not find out...
At the same time you probably won’t go far wrong with a factory build, where as you could definately buy a second hand custom made and find it’s not well suited.
I got it after peoples recommendations on here. Personally I find it fine with a pair of ss2600s and specialist rods. Great bit of kit and good value to go with it. If I was a bit more flush at the moment I would probably also have 3 and just be using them for everything.
