Sounds to me like Terry Edmonds hasn't found the best way to seat an alps reel seat.. Maybe he needs a bit more experience... I'm not sure of any top end rod builders that won't guarantee a rod built by themselves with an alps reel seat incorporated... Mine certainly will.

If you're looking for a shorter rod , maybe 10ft , look no further than the 2.75 torrix, it's great for upto 25yd lobs with smaller to medium sized deads.. It's got a mid to through sort of action with a softish tip. Great crossover from Zander to pike rod ,imo...

Im also a advocate for 30 mm up to 10mm anti frap on any barbel rod of 2.25 and up to 2.75. . Not only for casting performances but weed clearance on the tip also. Also a big fan of the alps cwg ai on all my rods including float rods the rubber insert is so comfortable....
