Fox mini Microns are probably the best of the ‘cheap’ alarms.
A couple of years ago I bought a set of Prologic ‘Bat’ alarms ( 3 and a sounder box for 80 quid) just see how good they were as the reviews were so positive. They were great (but a bit complicated to operate) and I toyed with selling...
I bought a spool of Synchro XT in .33 mm diameter (not Loaded) last year and tried it after all the rave reviews. Even the local ‘Tackle Den’ recommended it.
I didn’t like it at all and have gone back to my regular Gardner HT. I’ve also used Korda ‘sub line’ (12lb, breaks at around 15) and...
15ft PowerloopX any good to you ?
Stiff as hell and tip heavy - mine has a 3oz bomb stuck in the end of the butt.
Free to a good home; I haven’t used it for 15years.
It doesn’t have to be as expensive as some…..
I’ve used bespoke JB HNV pastes and they work well and go on working. But for me they take a few trips to establish (and John told me that would likely be what happens).
I also use over the counter frozen baits and they work straight out of the bag...
Couldn’t agree more.
I know nothing of Piscario or somesuch; my scant knowledge of centrepins ends at hearing that Chris Lythe reels are nice. I’m the proud owner of a battered old Stanton.
But I know a bit about high end fly reels and much of it is form over function. I use reels that should...
I had 3 rods direct from PB in the mid 80’s and got to know him a bit.
My understanding is that he fell out of love for rod building - hence selling the business and the brand to Nicholas Whipp.
If you tell us where you live I’m sure somebody will recommend a decent rod builder who is local to...
Allegedly these reels (and similar) are worth stupid money…..and I think they are basically junk.
Mine are PM4000H’s (and I have an Emblem) and I’m told the PM’s are worth 150 quid for the pair ! Considerably more than they cost new.
Some people even make money ‘tricking them up’ with...
I’ve got 2 very similar reels that I still use for spod/marker work.
They are still ‘big’ reels and take too much line unless you are boating out baits !
And as mentioned the drags are pretty agricultural…..
Just for information….
There are a number of new and used Hardy coarse rods (marksman etc etc) listed on the Glasgow Angling Centre website. I was there looking to buy some fly bits ready for a foreign trip.
I know nothing about these rods (never owned a Hardy coarse rod) so they might be...
I have the 5-15 and the 3-10 gram W3 rods in fixed spool format.
Decent rods for the money. The 5-15 is surprisingly powerful. I happily fish 20g lures on it.
I had a Power carp waggler 13ft from that series. Excellent rod that I used for chub trotting on the Wye. It dealt with 5lb line and decent chub no problem.
Slightly different configuration - 2 equal sections and a detachable butt.
I bought it new for about 70 quid. Good rod ! I sold it last...
