Does an estate lake count under this heading? The lovely lake at Blickling Hall in Norfolk on Thursday. Some cracking bream caught.

    Fishing line change

So glad this question has been asked! Richard, an extra query for you in particular: buying in bulk is obviously cheaper but does the unused line on the bulk spool last long enough to the next season and the one after that? Not sure where I heard it/read it, but I thought mono line deteriorated...

    Makes my blood boil 😡😡😡😡😡😡😡😡

I think we are all of "one voice" regarding this idiot. Can I offer a different "slant" on his actions though? The guy has shown himself up as having no regard for fish welfare and zero respect for this wonderful creature. To "Joe Public" however, this idiot could be seen as a "normal" angler...

    Makes my blood boil 😡😡😡😡😡😡😡😡

Who is the guy? Obviously someone who knows NOTHING about fish care and respect. I agree with you Terry, the only way he could have "posed" with these barbel is by sacking them. Sad that he will considered an "angler" by the general public. Those poor fish ☹️

    WYE FISHING-ANYONE BEEN RECENTLY

Hi Tim. There's a few posts about the Red Lion beat at Bredwardine on this forum. I've not fished it for years, but we were able to drive along most of it "back in the day".

Tim, You could also try Angling Dreams as I know they have beats with vehicle access.

I should add that the public section ceases at Mayton Bridge. Club only upstream to Brampton. Don't want people reading this and thinking its free fishing!!!!!

Hi David, I'm a member of the Oxnead Club. Don't believe all you hear about barbel in that stretch of the Upper Bure. I regularly walk/ fish the public section upstream from Horstead Mill right through to Brampton. I see more otters than barbel! Nice chub and lovely trout in the river, but few...

Was that taken today David? Its my favourite scene on that section of the Upper Bure. I fished just downstream of Plantation Bridge a few evenings ago but only caught a few dace, but also a very large and lively gudgeon!!! Took me back to my youth!

Big fish kill Warks Avon. THOUSANDS DEAD FISH.

I'm on the committee of a small angling club in Norfolk. Both the club and me personally are members of The Angling Trust who, as many of you may know, hold Zoom meetings covering a variety of subjects. I remember attending one of these meetings where they discussed how to maintain a healthy...

River Wye and Poultry Farming again

Interesting, well constructed & considered post Simon. It makes depressing reading though. Sadly, I think the Wye (and several other UK rivers) are past the point of no return. The riverbed is covered with brown slime and the fronds of life giving ranunculus is now a rare sight. I have...

River Wye and Poultry Farming again

I'm as surprised at reading that Joe as I was to learn that our ex PM lied to the House!!

    River wye

Hi again Craig. As I said in my earlier post it's a few years since I fished the Red Lion stretch. I used to have some success fishing the tail of what we called "the gravels" which is like a pebble "beach" in the second field you drive through. The swim opposite the salmon hut used to be good...

    River wye

The "go to" place years ago was The Red Lion at Bredwardine but I think the owner, Mike Taylor, has put it on the market? Still worth a ring though. They have a website I believe. Had some cracking days fishing the Red Lion beat and hilarious evenings in the bar. Happy Days

    River Lot, France

Can't help with any tips as sadly never fished the Lot, BUT would love to know what condition the river is in when you go there Cliff ie do the French allow their magnificent rivers to be blighted by pollution and extraction as we do in the UK??

    Pellet size.

I would make them into a paste and wrap them round my hook bait. Saves wasting them and it adds an extra dimension to your hookbait

Hi Craig. Welcome to the forum. You'll get some great advice on here. Sadly I can't help to answer your specific query as I live in Norfolk, but bait wise I rely on halibut pellets and luncheon meat. They tend to be my "go to" baits 👍

A letter to my Tory MP, I'd encourage you to do the same

As I write this it's absolutely chucking it down outside 💦 and it got me thinking about this valuable asset (water) which we have in the UK. We don't store enough of it. We allow it to wash out to sea taking with it pollutants from the roads, fertiliser from the land and sewage from our water...

A letter to my Tory MP, I'd encourage you to do the same

Hi Neil, You're a man after my own heart! On the 7th March 2023 I wrote to each of the UK's political parties, addressing my letters, in person, to the individual responsible for environmental issues in their party. My letter was polite and basically asked them what steps they would take to...
