The picture is a hint at the new Wychwood specialist chair. One of the guys field testing was saying that the legs are longer than normal on the front (?) and the new rods are a “bit special” (although he would say that!) lets all hope they get it right from the start (or maybe not as i really...
I’ve just bought a pair of Harkila Asmund trousers on the works gardners recommendation. Really pleased! Similar to Fjallraven but very slightly thinner material. Really well made, good pockets and reinforced on the knees for the rare Occassion i kneel down to unhook a fish. Really long...
No sorry, i’ve used Daves since they were in Lewin street and had a lot of their own branded items in the past including rods (i also had the burgundy & gold luggage set)Great shop with great people!
Just remembered another rod i used to love (for light quivertipping on the dane) was a 7ft rod which the spare tips were kept in the butt (an annoying rattle but a good idea when travelling light). It was a brown/bronze blank and was from Aitken or Aiken. Must be another manufacturer that...
My first big boys river rod was the Silstar Traverse X medium & heavy feeder rods. Used to chuck 2oz feeder fulls of maggots right across the Wye and were great in the day but like you say, probably wouldnt cope with the bigger barbel now. We were getting big bags of 4lb chub with the odd 5lb...
It’ll be interesting to see what they replace them with. I’ve been using mine for Tench fishing more than Barbel tbh and they are great for that. I’d like a more progressive action that will chuck a 4oz feeder without being too stiff for my Barbel this year i think so will have to have a look...
Fjällraven are the best imo but expensive. Really hardwearing, cotton canvas type material. Breathable and can be waxed if you want to waterproof them. Will last you years
Yes i had a few bits as it was great quality along with a bit of stuff from ‘chub’ (i think) hopefully they have something new to offer with a quality to match. The carp luggage they do now is really heavy duty & good quality but doesnt seem to be quite right imho
Wychwood are (re) entering the ‘specialist’ market soon with some new luggage etc. Could be worth keeping an eye out for it and hopefully it will be well thought out gear and not just carp gear with a ‘specialist’ badge on it (although, what the difference is i cant decide 🤣)
My missus rolled...
Does the Reservoir have an undertow in strong winds?
I find that big stillwater roach seem to feed well with a good blow on the water. If the lake suffers from a serious undertow in strong wind even better! (Not all venues seem to get undertow for some reason but ‘bowl’ shaped waters seem to be...
Reminds me of my first ‘barbel’ i caught on a light tip rod when i was in my teens. I hooked into the monster and battled it for about 10 minutes, i shouted “BARBEL ON” and asked my mate to bring the ‘big’ landing net, by which time a small crowd had amassed behind me to witness the capture. I...
I love mine : It feels good in the hand, will double up into equal lengths and fit in a quiver with a bottom rod if I wanted to chop and change on the day.
You already said it all really! Does everything i’ve asked of it. Nice with small Roach, decent Chub & i’ve had the odd Pike to 14lb (while...
