    Floats

The “big” floats of Andy’s are superb if you like trotting at distance in fast water. slow them right down and they work an absolute treat. You’ll see em comfortably at 60 plus yards no problem also. I’ve caught hundreds of barbel chub and bream on those big floats. A firm favorite of mine

    Finally!!! Something half decent

Appreciate the kind words Steve. Been completely honest and in my opinion the bulk of the skill in this case is primarily in landing them. We (5 of us) have our own private section of the river and we know that the barbel do pass through it as it’s between two sections on two different clubs...

Unfortunately Carl I don’t think it’s possible to catch a barbel of that size in a section of river like this, that hasn’t graced afew nets more than once and yes if I look through my pictures, I’m sure to see her again

    Finally!!! Something half decent

As a Yorkshire man originally myself i absolutely understand you there Neil. I was never successful in my quest for a Yorkshire double when I was fishing primarily the swale 20 odd years ago. From what old friends tell me the Y Ouse occasionally throws 1 or 2 up but it’s still pretty rare...

No I haven’t found a black 4.5” conquest yet. That’s the custom pin i designed and built with Garry at mill tackle

It was said with a bit of tongue in cheek phill. I agree with your comment entirely

    Finally!!! Something half decent

Yes. River nene. 6g float, 0.24 main line straight through to a size 10 garbolino spade end xtra strong hook. 8 inch over depth and just nudging a cube of meat through while feeding little but often 2mm micro’s via the cati. Some of the bream I wade through are colossal I’m not a fan of them...

We’ll have to sort something out Al being so close to one another and met up several times. You come to mine or I come to yours. Happy either way just throw some dates at me 👍🏻

    Finally!!! Something half decent

Terrible season for me so far largely contributed by the fact that the rivers have been in such poor condition. I’ve just not wanted to fish them. Anyway a bit of rain and a cooler few days finally encouraged a couple of barbel to feed for me. I had a modest one around 8lb 2nd cast which was...

Maver Signature Pro 15’ float rod (Bournemouth)

Very much A firm favorite of mine for 4-6lb lines. They extract big chub with no problems whatsoever. Much preferred my 15 siggy pro to my 15 Accy plus

    Water temp

Yes but in winter mainly where a single degree in either direction can make or break your day.

    Free spirit 15ft hi s mk1

I’m a fan of them having experienced just how far they can be pushed. They ain’t the lightest blank in the world. In standard format the handle feels clumsy, the carbon reel seat has a habit of letting go and for the money I’d expect a better set of guides but then free spirit have never been...

How many of you are waiting for this long float rod?

Right ok. I did half expect it to just continue through with the rest of the range and just be another 2 ft longer. That confirms it then. Yes I’m a fan of the original it’s a very unique deceptive rod with very much hidden capabilities. Day ticket fiskerton?? How’d it fish? I’ve struggled...

How many of you are waiting for this long float rod?

The original 17 has an action that differs from other float rods but despite this I’m actually a fan of it. It sounds like you have given the new more powerful version some serious stick and are probably the best man currently to ask….. have they retained the original action while beefing the...

    New Normark Rods

People have different names for them but basically Graham that’s the mk1. The very first incarnation of the 3 float rods looked like those with full cork handles, sliding bands and double legged guides.

    New Normark Rods

I’d expect the feeder rod to comfortably cast a stated payload Alec and I’d expect it to be an accurate and reliable statistic indeed because casting weight is extremely relevant when it comes to feeder rods. Especially those with multiple tip strengths. In the float rod game it’s way less...

    New Normark Rods

I don’t know about the new ones Stuart but in terms of the team 2000’s i would say no the acolyte plus would align much better with the avenger in terms of action, power and suitable line ratings. The titan 2000 is more like the acolyte ultra imo.

    New Normark Rods

Masterline didn’t gobble up normark but they including normark were one of a number of brands under the rapala umbrella. Masterline were what normark fell back on to develop the rods. I don’t know what order everything went down in but at this transition point around 2001 ish. GS and OT left...

    New Normark Rods

I take this statistic with a very large pinch of salt. A good example is my Preston supera x float is rated to cast 12g. My sphere is rated to 30g I’ve got a shimano rated to 25g iirc It’s just made up bollocks imo. an accurate description of the action along with a min and max main line rating...

    New Normark Rods

There’s no risk at all with this rod. It is as strong as carbon fibre can possibly get. I have 2 of them. Between them they have quite literally been to hell and back. One of them has tamed a known nene fish which knocks close to 15lb in summer and both have extracted 12’s and 13’s out without...
