Jon….. two replies my friend
1 I have very few secrets in my fishing, this isn’t one of them. I’ve posted it on the forum a number of times when the subject comes up
2 ……. Probably just come back from site job. It’s usually the time when my hands are hacky 😁
IMO there’s a much better way to do this.
I started doing it like this probably 7 or 8 years ago. I’ve never seen another angler actually try it but imo it is the best way to present a weighted bait.
Tie a hook with a knotless knot and leave a hair length of around 10-15mm. No loop needed...
It probably wouldn’t be a favorite of yours even if built to spec Chris.
the blank walls are quite a bit thicker and it can’t physically be made as light as an acolyte or like without negatively affecting the balance to the point it feels too nose heavy…..As you know I tried to do that and had...
Yes i personally would and the float size wouldn’t change my thoughts on it.
The way to get away with less guides is taller guides.
This however is a problem as you get closer to to the tip section because there are not many float/match guides at that size that really do stand off enough to...
I would play on the side of caution with guide spacing unless like Ralph you don’t intend on getting caught out in the rain.
More is better from a trotting point of view because the line will flow nicely between the short spaces without the risk of it being blown into the blank. As your a braid...
a good question to revive an old thread. How are they now?…. I don’t think they are particularly good reels from a reliability point of view.
It’s a shame because they feel incredibly smooth when new and they certainly look the part. Very smart looking little baitrunner but I’ve heard now of...
Etienne if you already have the 14ft daiwa spectron then I hate to say it but you probably already have as good as it already gets. They are absolutely brilliant rods for trotting for mega fish.
Why not treat yourself to a lovely new centrepin for the rod you already use
Etienne I am in absolute agreement of the posts above. Harrison build some lovely blanks but the GTI float blank is long past its day. In fact it was never ahead of its time in all honesty and i would be looking to spend your money more wisely.
10lb line is fine just be aware that it’s very...
£214 new is a good price and it’s a nice rod.
I ignored it myself as I have rather a lot of 15ft rods rated around the 5-6lb line bracket already, Stepped up match rods I suppose you could say.
The 14ft was the one I was really interested in seeing. Been a length I don’t often buy and the...
The 15ft is actually not a power float just a stepped up 3-6lb line rod. The only length they offered in the supera x as a proper power model was 14ft which rates to 8lb line.
214 isn’t a bad price I suppose but i bought mine new for £268
My no 2 had 3 butt sections and 2 middle sections so it could fish as a dedicated rod at 13/15/17ft. Without the need of the 2ft dolly.
It would have cost an absolute fortune to buy new.
It wasn’t bad to hold to be fair even with the long sections I managed it comfortably
It was just a...
As the rods are sitting in rests for most of the time, balancing up the ideal sized reel is really not too important. However as you are going to be lobbing out larger leads and feeders particularly on the tidal sections then I would suggest a larger reel with quite a low gear ratio just to...
I have a rather large collection of stuck floats that i haven’t used for a very long time.
I generally go for larger body stemmed bolo float and more often than not it’s between 3-12g depending on the conditions and the river in front of me.
It’s about control more than anything else and I’ve...
I’ve heard some horror stories about them producing a sharp edge on the internal rolled seam. I’ve heard some go rusty and then there’s the strength of such thin light frames.
So far nothing to report
😂 just read this. it sounds like a below average fish when it’s worded like that.😂😂
“Caught anything mate?”
“Na it’s rubbish here. Just a couple of 13’s” 😂😂😂😂😂
I’m joining your fishing club
As you know I had very similar reservations on them also. I’m quite at ease with them now though. I think any weaknesses or points of failure in them would have come to light by now. It’s gonna be a hell of a tool for the slider float guys with such large bores on the guides.
I half expected...
