How tight do you set your clutch if you have your baitrunner clutch giving line at when your rod is almost at full compression? I have my normal clutch set about that tight, and have the baitrunnner set much looser. R.

Simon, Mike is perfectly aware of "the mechanics of how a baitrunner has been designed to be used". However, I question whether you do. Earlier in this thread, you said: and Surely that's the function of a clutch, and the baitrunnner is actually designed to let a fish take line with...

There is a very good reason, Mike, why this thread is not entitled "cardinal 55/54 v shimanos v mitchells" ;) R.

    fishing cenre pins

I must confess that while trotting for chub on the Foss (v. small river - 10ft wide, 2ft deep) I happened to hook a nice fish just as a family out walking had stopped opposite me. "Oooh, look Tarquin, he's caught one". Well, I just had to let it take line with the ratchet on, didn't I? Several...

    Winter Thermal Suits....

John, I have one of these (comes with a free one of these), and a pair of these. They are very good - incredibly warm and waterproof. I had a session on the Swale a couple of years ago when it was -1, and I didn't feel it - warm as toast. In fact, have a look on the Foss thread - I just...

5th Annual Ousemeister Barbel Challenge, 4th September, 2010

Well guys, it's looking like it could be a tough day tomorrow - warm and bright most of the afternoon, and the river is pretty low - 0.20m at Monkton [1]. I've sorted all my bait - I think naturals could be the order of the day: maggot, caster, hemp, worm. Although I may try some meat, and...

    preparing hemp

Good deal - I currently use a pressure cooker, but it does make rather a smell, and I would hate to have to clear up if it ever blows! BTW, 8.8 litres = 15.4858287 Imperial pints R.

Why bother buying a EA rod licence?

Plus of course the classic exchange: PIKE: Whistle while you work, Hitler is a twirp, he's half barmy, so's his army, whistle while you work. CAPTAIN: Your name vil also go on ze list. Vot is it? MAINWARING: Don't tell him, Pike I think we're even more decidedly OT now, though! R.

    Glueing Elips...

I've never had any problems when glueing a couple of elips to a hair. But, I've got to ask the question: if you're pellet banding them, why do you need to glue them at all? R.
