Steve, you're obviously a beginner - any competent Ruffe angler knows that small hooks are not needed; I find size 6, long-shank, with a couple of lobworms works best :D

I'm no expert, but I would say that there's no point re-stocking anything (barbel, otters, whatever) without doing something to address the root causes of the population decline. And once you've done that then there would be no need to re-stock as the population would grow again naturally.

I tried that theory once. It was the same session my rod went in, the fish I lost just before. It was going like a train so I slackened off hoping it would stop, but it didn't and rushed into the nearest snag and got stuck solid!
