actually it was because you gave a sensible answer to Waynes question and I asked you There must be a reason why so many people seem to think that rivers are stocked in the same way as ponds as I have seen postings here and elsewhere going on about EA stocking fish and being responsible for...

    Laser Pens

Absolutely correct Alex and a top tip; borrowed one today from the college I occasionally do some work for and have just tried it on my cat. She loves it and it gave me a chuckle. May save a bit of the remaining bird life in my back garden that she hasn't already got too:)

Was, I am afraid Neil...you have a better chance on the Severn these days. Do you think this idea that the EA stock all our rivers comes from people fishing in commercial ponds? Rivers, on the whole, should have sustainable and natural populations of fish and not require stocking if they were...

You may want to read that carefully. It is the Daily Mail after all.:) Salmon figures have dropped by half in the last two years. They have dropped by far, far more than that in the last ten years. Not to do with poaching by Poles. The organised illegal netting, long lining and snatching on the...

    Laser Pens

I assume because they are useful tools when doing presentations, teaching etc., at least that is what I have always used them for and what they are intended for.

    Laser Pens

Wow...sorry I asked now:o, As I said, I have used laser dot sights on rifles in the past, not on birds admittedly, but on deer. I understand some stalkers like them as they can see if the idiot client is miles off target and get ready to take a decent shot. The deer didn't notice the dots at...

    Laser Pens

Can't see how shining them on the water would do anything. I don't have one of these pens, but have used lasar sights when shooting and animals don't notice them at all (which is why they are useful) until it's too late, unless you point them on the eye. Pointing them in the eyes would certainly...

    Laser Pens

Just notice that a "well known club" has banned the use of Laser pens on its waters. Anybody clue me in as to what purpose anybody used a laser pen for when they were fishing? Just can't think of one myself so am a bit in the dark. Maybe I need to keep up a bit better, but when techniques get...

They sell door to door round Brum, buying the fish from the fish market. The blokes selling bin liners full of salmon in Ludlow this time of year are very definitely dodgy, but have either Irish or local accents usually and pitch their caravans along the Teme.

    Landing net

McLean's Large Catch and Release Weigh Net Great things, designed for Salmon and Pike angling so have a nice sling to put on your back when roaming and wading. A fair size, a handle long enough for most time and you can weigh and unhook the fish still in the net. Cost over £80 I am afraid.:(...

of course this would have meant rather a lot of British people would have gone to the gas chambers, you wouldn't be able to post stuff freely on boards like this ,hunting and fishing would have been banned...but the trains would have run on time.

I got all excited with this thread thinking it was about a long forgotten TV kids Sci Fi programme sadly, it seems not.

    the future of barbel angling?

By the way, Dave Mason is official keeper of the Barbel records and I can't see him including a still water fish as the biggest can you?

    the future of barbel angling?

The Searchers....isn't it. And I'd rather search for my fish as well rather than have them placed before me. Personally as long as stocking is legal and no fish are removed from the river I am entirely un interested in what people put in still water. The individual fish may well thrive as you...

    the future of barbel angling?

So you are suggesting that still water fisheries have bailiffs who stop illegal activity (poaching) but encourage illegal activity (shooting without a license).......strange sort of bailiffs, do they now decide which laws to enforce and which to break in order to make a profit? Glad I stick to...

    the future of barbel angling?

It would be a sad day if fishing were ever to be confined to ponds. Irrespective of the rights and wrongs of stocking river fish in stillwaters, I,for one, am not interested in catching them in such places any more than I am interested in catching trout from trout farms. I would as soon take up...

Severn Rivers Trust - River Severn Conference

While not for a second doubting that Dace may well be native to the Wear I am not sure about Izaak writing about fishing for Dace up there. I don't think he personally ever got to fish in Northern rivers and doesn't mention Dace in relation to the Wear in his book. Charles Cotton would have...
