like others I bought 2 pairs last year and use them for work, fishing and other sports excellent value for money especially if you work outside in the cold.
glycerine is the best bet but another one which I have used in the past is WD40 spray and that works also, but apply this BEFORE you start to fish it will last just as long as glycerine depending on the severity of the conditions.
only black and silver ones Ive seen are these, they are made by the same lads who make the fred crouch centrepins.

I contacted Chris over this exact same reel, 18 months waiting time on it but worth the wait & certainly worth the money which is tucked away in a secret place so the mrs dont see it..lol
Id agree with dave if you fancy a good reel try Ray at adcock stanton, I bought a memorial reel from him in april and cannot comment highly enough on the high quality and service he provided me with throughout.
I use berkley fireline fused crystal 6lbs braid on all my trotting reels now, its like fishing with cotton thread I wouldnt change back to mono now. I used to fish bayern perlon in earlier years nothing wrong with it at all. :)
Stuart mine was stiff when I first took the bearing out but the more you use the reel and the more it runs it gets easier. I have noticed and it runs better with time, Ive used it on 3 occassions now and each time was better than the last.
Precision Engineering costs & manufacturer would be the top of the list as other reels are not massed produced like the ikonix/cortesi reels and made genberally from a single block of aluminium and better bearings....etc etc etc.:)
You know it makes sense Bill :) for £36 nobody can really complain about it, AS for the personal touches I think if they had to put them on it would hike the price up but none of them matter to me so am more than happy with my £36 reel :)
As to your rear bearing question I wouldnt bother...
I personally own 3 Trudex's & 4 Rapidex's along with other pins but hasten to add I wouldnt use them for Barbel angling, on purpose even although I have caught plenty using them whilst trotting for chub.
I use a more heavier & larger drummed reel to cope with the throwing of larger baits and...
I always use diver dave for my repairs on waders, breathable & neoprene and they come back like brand new each time I send them, I get them serviced once a year and it has saved me a fortune on new waders as mine are both into their 4th season and still going strong like they were brand new...
Derek this should help you out its a step by step with pictures I did for a friend who bought one showing him how to take it apart & maintain it. I hope you find it useful. Its done in microsoft office and is 1.5mb...
Trevor I dont think it would be fair to say what I think is negative because my negative points are not necessary everyone else's negative points and someone else may think that its a good point so I will keep them to myself but to be fair to the reel there isnt much thats for sure and in places...
access road, you have me at a loss mate? I think I know where your talking about but havent been down there for well over 12 months now so couldnt say Ive moved sticks and replanted further north now for my grayling fishing on the tees, a bit more secluded and less interest from the rent a...
