    Folding shovel

Army ones are better than the civilian counterparts and the better ones if you can get hold of them from the surplus store is the german army issue ones, they are better than our ones and will last forever, when I returned from Germany I brought 1 with me for just this purpose.

    Centrepin sizes 3.5" or 4.5"?

I fish with all sizes of pin from 3.5 up to 5.5 and Im more comfortable in my trotting on the rivers with 4". As paul says the 3.5" is a tad small for the barbel work but I enjoy fishing it on the many becks I have here in Yorkshire so is well suited for that type of work, and occassionally it...

    centre pin question

You need to look at new reels as older pin reels 1970s etc are not interchangeable as the spool was made for the reel itself so dont go looking or wasting your money on older reels, the new bearing reels are all interchangeable as they sit on the bearings and not on the pin, however you will pay...

    Centrepin for Fly Fishing

The okuma you saw on flyforums was for display purposes only, It was Rob who was selling it and didnt have a picture so put a display one up to show people what it was like. Like the others have said a centrpin will not do the job of a fly reel. :)

    8lb Berkley Fireline

Its a spun line chris, with a hollow core if you take the end of it and twist it between your fingers you will get 1 or 2 strands coming away, but dont do it to your reel line use an offcut otherwise it will peel all the way back and you wont be able to stop it. Ultima were quite adament that...

    8lb Berkley Fireline

You dont do much winter fishing chris if your still using ultima flo cast!! The stuff is absolutely **** in the cold I used it last year and all the threads unwound and it fell apart, I complained to Ultima about it and they said it wasnt designed to be used in such low temperatures!!! I laughed...

    8lb Berkley Fireline

all depends on how far you want to trot with it, I only load my centrepins with around 60m, you dont require anything else if your trotting. Trotting is a mobile method and as that you dont require large amounts loaded onto your reel, it just causes bedding in and a whole host of other problems...

    8lb Berkley Fireline

have used 8lbs & 6lbs fireline crystal on my centrepins for trotting now for well over 18 months and wouldnt use anything else now to be truthful. Once it has be used in so to speak its way better than mono and Ive been using mono for trotting for years but will never go back to it now. as long...

    speedia servicing/repairs

I doubt you will get a longer screw chris unless you strip it from another reel, but from what your saying I dont think its the screw at fault, I would look more closely at the pin itself

    speedia servicing/repairs

is the current grub screw missing? as I cant see it being worn, have you tried to strip it down yourself and give it a good oil? all speedias have a bit of float on them so if it isnt great then wouldnt worry to much about that but the rubbing sounds as if the pin could be off centre or worn

    speedia servicing/repairs

what exactly is wrong with it chris as there is nothing much to them, I use speedia's all the time and carry out my own servicing.

No bother at all Ian, its still a beautiful fish, ALL grayling are. Ive had 3 fish so far over 2lbs this season and my mate has had 1 fish over 3lbs from the clyde that was an absolute donkey and won him the fish of the week in the sun newspaper in scotland. This is a pic of him with it.

I wouldnt say that is over 2lbs more like 1lbs 10oz around that mark, I had a 45 inch fish a few weeks ago that was just over 2lbs by 3oz and it was a lot bigger than that but a very nice fish all the same, well done Steve. :D
