Which off the shelf float rod? Opinions please :)

I've got the Mark Tunley MK1 13 1/2 ft specialist float to there's one available now on sale now. It's a lovely rod with top quality carbon and kit and handles the whole range of float fishing right down to small pond crucians/silvers up to barbel as had no problem with a near double recently...

    New Normark Rods

I know there have been a lot of comparisons with the Drennan Acolyte but how the Normarks compare to say the Free Spirit Hi-S Special Power, as like a lot of people am really waiting for a 15ft float option. I have the Mark Tunley Specialist Float 13.5 ft at the moment which is a great all...

New rods wanted. C3’s vs basis vs mark tunleys dark carbons any info on these 3 please pros and cons.

I'd counter what people have said here in that if you feel better on the bank with nice rod/s you tend to have more confidence and fish better. That should give better results so I agree you could catch with a cheaper rod and if that is what you want then good for you. We all like nice stuff to...

New rods wanted. C3’s vs basis vs mark tunleys dark carbons any info on these 3 please pros and cons.

I have the Dark Carbon's from Mark Tunley Niall so can only say good things about these. I have Harrisons for carping so am sure the Chimera's would be great as well. Whether they're £100 better than the DC's I can't say but I know Basia's are also good as did look at those but stocks were low...

    Change baits !

If it's hard going I find it's more presentation that's the key and will opt for more rolling methods as have found that to be useful. Maybe that's because I can cover more ground on the river but having spent hours without much action I flip to a very light weight and a bit of something moving...

    Help with server costs 2025

Thanks Andy for doing all this IT stuff in the background. Working in IT as I do we don't get the headlines usually unless it's a bad news story. Great job and good to help out. Cheers.

    Heat!

If I was lucky enough to catch a barbel at this time I'd certainly forego a picture or two in the interests of fish welfare. I know it's the in thing to capture a photo with fish in hands but a simple photo in the landing net and an approximation of size is good enough for me. In terms of water...

Good bit of kit for self takes...

Have ordered the same now so just need to catch something worth taking a picture of now. Maybe a record barbel (for me) as my best is only just below 13. But the Avon and Stour await, and possibly the Severn on a venture up North.

There's always the robin to photo as he seems to follow me around everywhere I fish. :D

    No passion for angling?

Another week goes by and we’re nearly in July already. I’m sure ‘him above’ makes that clock go faster as we get older! Having read a few updates on the forum and certainly regarding this post there is a lot of passion around. That’s great and this really is more my observations having been...

    Shimano Thunnus 6000.

We fisher folk are really a strange breed. Give us something with a bit of bling and we'll be just purring on river bank looking at our rod and reels on the rests. Do they come with polish and maybe some tassels? 😇

    Braid choice for hooklinks

I've not tried any of the tungsten coated/loaded braid yet as that sounds an option. As normal loads of choices but any suggestions there?

    Braid choice for hooklinks

Another one for the Drennan gravel braid. The Fox Camotex coated braid is good so just strip off a few inches above the hook for suppleness. Drennan Supplex Fluorocarbon is good and quite supple. I do have some old hooklink material from yester year (Kryston Merlin and Drennan Dacron) which...

    No passion for angling?

Great picture Rob (and daughter)! I think that certainly sums up fishing as there’s achievement but more just the pure joy of it all. I started this thread after contemplating live (my live really) while sat in the conservatory watching that spider weave it’s web. How something so small and...

    No passion for angling?

I can see a lot of passion from the responses here and hope that the next generation of anglers who take the bank do remember what fishing is all about. People certainly can choose their own method, style and what they get out of fishing is definitely their choice. I just hope the future of...

    New reservoir ?

Afraid it same old same story in this country Tim. Too many people have their fingers in the pie, and screw the system to make financial gain. We don't need 20 committees to make choices etc so just build the bloody thing. In China it would be built in by end 2027!

    No passion for angling?

This morning I couldn’t sleep and was up having my first coffee at 04:15 watching the sun come up and see the world go by in the conservatory. While watching a small house spider carefully weave its web across the corner of the room I was think why do we go fishing. The modern trend seems to be...

    New rods

I'm sure Gareth you'll get lots of great updates from everyone here and they'll be much better placed than me to advise as I'm more an all rounder at fishing. There are so many good rods out there so depends on your budget, and whether you expect the rod to be OK in all river conditions. For...

    Couriers

Surely there's a big business opportunity out there for someone to transport fishing rods, old and new, across the UK. They could have vans with secure rod tubes, they pick up from homes/businesses and then load the rods into their tubes, and then deliver to wherever that rod/s need to go. This...

How did everyone’s day one go ?

Not ventured to the rivers yet as work gets in the way so only managed some short sessions on local ponds to test out newly purchased M.Tunley float rod. It's a lovely thing, but more lovely are the things that pop out and grace your net. A nice fully scaled variety of about 4 lbs. Hoping...
