    The River Somme

Hi Matthew, A few years ago I bought a book called Peche Francaise by Phil Pembroke. It's a bit dated and not great but covers the area you mention. I don't know it myself, but it seems that Cats around Ailly-sur-somee and Amiens. it does also mention night fishing areas, with carp to 21.75...

    penn slammer liveliner cheap

Quite interested in the discussion about backwinding. I do it out of habit, and from having **** gear for so long, but now I have some reasonable reels i thought maybe I ought to try the clutch. Oddly enough was looking online tonight for a local commercial where I could try it out. Is the...

    Roach

Excellent catches guys - this is what we need - a bit of encouragement! I'll be out next week some time & have my eye on a few swims on a Thames trib - will report back! Would absolutely love a 1 and a 2 would be unthinkable, but have seen 1 big 1 there.

    ANOTHER landing net thread, groan.

With 2.75lb rods and 20lb braid, I don't think you need a net or gaff - just swing them all to hand.

    Remember your first barbel bite?

Best thread for ages. My first was in 2000 fishing the Vezere at Les Ezyies in the Dordogne (on the pretence that my 3 &4 year old daughters enjoyed it!). 2 maggots, a size 18 on 2.2lb and a stick float. Played it for 5 minutes before I saw it - couldn't believe a fish that size (maybe 1.5lb)...

    What Did Santa Leave You??

Same / similar scammers got my Mum (81) by pretending to be Microsoft, trying to sort out her (non-existant) virus by loading LogMein. Fortunatley I'd already loaded it so I could help her remotely & she called me on her mobile during the call. Oddly, they tried the same thing on my home...

France Ardeche / Allier / Tarn

There's loads of smaller barbel in the Ardeche, in the faster sections & some big carp in the barraged sections (these are quite short). Also roach chub dace etc. Meat worked for me & also bought a few expensive maggots for the float. Have heard corn is good too.

    Flooding and drought?

So you don't pay for the subsidies. :) I'm not disagreeing - just pointing out that cheaper is not a good selling point for nationalisation. :)

    Flooding and drought?

Your argument falls down based upon the fact that nationalised industries are (generally) subsidised and thus provide services at below the market rate.

    lovely day on the wye.

That's rubbish -yes you are being anal - there is no possibility of the fish damaging itself. And it's an unhooking mat.

    lovely day on the wye.

It's on wet grass on a net on what looks like a flat surface. I think you are being unnecessarily picky.

    Bait wafting in current.

Thanks guys - some good things to try. Will report back in a couple of weeks depending on success or otherwise

    Bait wafting in current.

I have question about bait presentation. Last year whilst fishing the River Dordogne in a reasonably shallow (4 / 5 foot) swim with a powerful flow – maybe walking pace * 1.5. I had some problems using meat. In the powerful flow, using a feeder or lead, the meat hook bait was being wafted...

    Emailing tackle shops

Hi Adam Yes - Matchman Supplies - they are excellent. Actually I just ordered a hold-all from them - checked first by mail it was in stock. The chap who runs it - Tim Aplin - is very good - will phone to check if you want an order splitting etc.
