Hi Matthew,
A few years ago I bought a book called Peche Francaise by Phil Pembroke. It's a bit dated and not great but covers the area you mention. I don't know it myself, but it seems that Cats around Ailly-sur-somee and Amiens. it does also mention night fishing areas, with carp to 21.75...
Quite interested in the discussion about backwinding. I do it out of habit, and from having **** gear for so long, but now I have some reasonable reels i thought maybe I ought to try the clutch. Oddly enough was looking online tonight for a local commercial where I could try it out. Is the...
Excellent catches guys - this is what we need - a bit of encouragement! I'll be out next week some time & have my eye on a few swims on a Thames trib - will report back! Would absolutely love a 1 and a 2 would be unthinkable, but have seen 1 big 1 there.

Oddly, they tried the same thing on my home...
There's loads of smaller barbel in the Ardeche, in the faster sections & some big carp in the barraged sections (these are quite short). Also roach chub dace etc.
Meat worked for me & also bought a few expensive maggots for the float. Have heard corn is good too.
Your argument falls down based upon the fact that nationalised industries are (generally) subsidised and thus provide services at below the market rate.
I have question about bait presentation.
Last year whilst fishing the River Dordogne in a reasonably shallow (4 / 5 foot) swim with a powerful flow – maybe walking pace * 1.5. I had some problems using meat. In the powerful flow, using a feeder or lead, the meat hook bait was being wafted...
Hi Adam
Yes - Matchman Supplies - they are excellent. Actually I just ordered a hold-all from them - checked first by mail it was in stock. The chap who runs it - Tim Aplin - is very good - will phone to check if you want an order splitting etc.
