    Close Season Boredom: "sinking" braid

Pure guess here, but I would say that tiny air bubbles may have developed on the materials which weren't heavy enough to resist the added buoyancy.

    Canal Carp

Done a bit on tench infested waters. Try 22mm boilie on longish hooklink and hair with running rig - barbel style. Or double tiger nut on your fave setup.

Base Mix? One For Bait Buffs...

On the first point, I don't wish to be rude to you Ian, but it wasnt really aimed at you. To expand would go against the principal under which I said it. On second point, well, who knows what he really meant, but your interpretation is interesting as always.

Base Mix? One For Bait Buffs...

All, This thread seems to have deteriorated, which is a shame as it was interesting. I apologise for my part in that. It may be a bit late now, but I have a couple of points to make regarding some subjects discussed earlier in the thread. First, A really easy way to nail protein in...

Base Mix? One For Bait Buffs...

Ah, Graham, not the old 'two foot twitch'. That would give Big Fish Mix the boot, for sure. > If what Crooky reports as what Dave Moore says is true then, presuming that Nutrabaits do have all these available 'proteins' in their baits then anything else, my bait, most other peoples baits...

Bait on, cast in, barbel out.

Base Mix? One For Bait Buffs...

Good grief Ian. Dave Moore, inventor of the Big Fish Mix - which by the way, has the ingredients listed on the packet - a bait which has caught a couple of fish in its time. I think you should challenge him to a bait-off! "Go Ian, Go Ian..."

    One For The Bait Buffs?

I used to love tinkering with bait. I had two successful mixes, one a fishmeal, one a non-fishmeal. The fishmeal contained robin red at the oft-quoted 5%, and relatively high levels of GLM. I had to stop making this bait as something in it - I suspect the GLM powder - would make me feel...

    At last a big Perch!

Superb fish. Many congrats! I too am on the perch trail. A fish half that size would do me.

    Roach

No snobbery, just my ambition mate. Plus it's less distance and cheaper, living minutes from several rivers, but among a drought of decent stillwaters. Same as id like to be lucky enough to catch a 13lb barbel, but from the Severn. I'd be as delighted with a 13lber from, say, the Teme or w...

    Local 'Experts'

There was this one geezer who was fishing ham pool at the same time I was doing a lot of tench fishing down there. Everytime you saw him - in camo (not that it's an issue, it's just part of the character) - he would tell you about the huge 13, 14lb bream and/or tench he had caught the night...

Hard long very confusing weekend !!!!

    > ESP Raptor D-7's look a good strong hook with a curved point hopefully won't blunt as easily Sorry to say this, but I find ESP hooks notorious for the hookpoint going blunt or turning over if a fish so much as farts in the general direction. Fox SSBP is a much sturdier pattern IMO

Barbel decline in the Upper Teme

Colin, the floods may not cause a mass wipe out, but barbel have been proven to move downstream during big floods, down further than many seem to realise. Whether that is by choice or not, who knows. Example, when was the Severn below Tewkesbury stocked with barbel? Another example, barbel...
