Cherwell's just f**ked full stop and it has nothing to do with otters Alex, Thames tributaries around Oxford are some of the worst polluted in the uk with abstraction sucking the life out of them...give me otters any day over that lot.
I think you have to mention otters when it comes to barbel on smaller rivers, but I feel if you mention that alone for declining barbel numbers it sounds a bit like sour grapes and plays into the hands of pro otter people. So I think you would have to add that over abstraction leading to low...

Hello Jim.... Clanfield Angling Club on the upper Thames have a stretch where you can park behind every swim, you do have to climb over a style though. It's not prolific but does hold a few fish.

I never thought it would happen but most of the rivers in oxford have very few signal crayfish in them now, why that is we don't know. the only obvious conclusion is otters. just hope it stays that way.
