I always start off long, if I'm missing bites, ( not that i get many 😁 ), I'll shorten slightly, chop 6 to 8 inches off, and keep doing so till i finally hook one. Its easier than starting off short, then having to tie a longer one.

I once fished for 2 days solid, tried everything, pellets, boilies, etc, all the things you would expect to work on a river, not a touch. At last knockings, i tried a single grain of corn, and yes, you know what happens next. :)👍

I'm a massive fan of Temu, spent a small fortune with them. ( tools, gadgets, etc ), Had lots of terminal bits from them, tail rubbers, silicone tubing etc etc, and can't fault them, so much cheaper than anyone else. Is there a reason not to. 🤷‍♂️
