How to take good trophy shots - tips please

Following on from the PB thread, to me it's interesting how some of the pics are good trophy shots and some are perhaps not quite the desired result of our most memorable moments :o I'm sure there must be some experienced photographers on here who can pass on some basic ground rules we could...

    Bait dropping and roving

I just use my 2lb TC rod. Fill the dropper, swing it out gently from hand to river. No need for an additional rod surely shirely?

More fish stories please thank you nicely

    The PB thread

Great to read this thread, nice idea Andy. Some lovely fish here too and great motivation for me and I'm sure others. I've spent a fair bit of time staring at your 18lb fish Ray in the Bob Church book before now! Here's mine from the Loddon when I got lucky with a fish that was very...

    Berkley Big Game line

Another thumbs up from me. 12lb for barbel this season, 15lb for carp abroad.

What was the last thing you bought from your local tackle shop?

Think I spent about £300 in Johnson Ross, mainly on braids, line, leaders and 20 packets of ESP size 4 long shank hooks prior to a Morocco trip. On reflection I do spend at least £1500 a year on bits and bobs I reckon.

    Selfish?

Pre-baiting nearly always gets good results in terms of numbers and size of fish caught. It worked for Richard Walker, works for Terry Hearn, and so it's good enough for me! Fair play if you put the effort in I say. If I lived near to the Loddon where I choose to angle, I would be down there...

    Mark Tunley The Activater

Built by either Bob or Mark and on a Harrison blank it'll be a nice rod whatever.

    Early Season Baits

Good luck whatever you try, the Dove is a river I would absolutely love to fish - got some cracking fish in there.

    Perch

The new perch record of 6lb 2oz was in Angling Times yesterday - many congratulations to Neill, the captor by design - also no mean barbel angler. Top angling!

    New Scottish Record Barbel

Hmmm, maybe I ought to give it a go for the record? "Haggis breaks Scottish barbel record using Haggis"

Highs and Lows, Best and Worst, season so far.

This season has been an enjoyable one for a few reasons. I suppose the first is that I haven't put pressure on myself to actually catch any target barbel. This, as it turns out, has been rather fortunate! Although I normally really enjoy this approach I've enjoyed just being by a few different...

    Bite alarms for barbel fishing?

For barbel delkims agreed are best for me. Other stuff Atts are good, especially large waters abroad.

For those that fancy the 4000D but baulk at the price.

I'm sure they are well built enough. I had a play with one in a shop but they did seem small. But not as small as the invisible and weightless barbel ive been catching lately..
