    Fishing in heavy rain......

I had a lovely double from the Loddon in a thunder storm. It had been raining very heavily for a few hours and my Loddon addiction was at its peak so I went on a Thursday night. Could hardly see to drive on the motorway, soaked by the time I got to the swim. An amazing experience playing a...

January 2012 Fish of the Month Sponsored by Pallatrax

What a superb selection of catches! A friendly Loddon fish there gets my vote :)

    Trent Done a Big Un

Not sure's there much point in lying about a 16 or 17lb fish is there? Well done to both on catching decent fish, perhaps misweighed, but photos can make fish look both a lot bigger and smaller. Let's face it we should be fishing and not on the internet..

Shimano DL 4000, 4000D or Daiwa Regal Z

i have the 6000d as I'm always optimistic about the size of barbel I'll catch :) They really are a fantastic reel. Worth the extra for a single handle, but they're going to last for years and I felt the 4000d's were a touch too small, the 6000d are still light. I posted a while back about the...

    new Reels

6000D's are the best reels I've owned for barbel. 4000D's a touch too small for my winching in the mothership aspirations. Fantastic clutch.

18lb 8oz Thames record barbel this week's Angling Times

From the front cover, two words; 'pellet cloud'. My new favourite insult.

September Fish of the Month Sponsored by Pallatrax

If I knew you hadn't caught loads more and loads bigger I'd vote for you Paul! But the Taff fish is a real achievement and a great pic too..so I voted for myself obviously :o

    Pulled out

Exactly. Do all you can to minimise these things but if the fish are feeding tentatively for whatever reason then they'll not pick up the bait confidently. 14lb flouro will be stiffer than 12pm so will cause more problems.

    Pulled out

I dont use flouro myself very often but if you tied flouro with a curve shank hook it'll not work properly and youll still have the angle problem. Shrink tube someone said they use for anti eject properties, but the shrink is really to turn the hook point down by adding the curve in and not...

    Pulled out

Flouro is stiffer than braid of course and so means you get a different angle at the hook. This, in combination with the fish feeling the flouro, may be it. Or maybe you're pulling too hard. Or just unlucky. Or using the wrong hooks. ESP curves give superb hook holds and are the sharpest I've...

    Black Snail Paste essential

That's made me laugh twice now. You definitely win the prize. I won't even bother trying as you just snailed it there.

    TB Ultegra 5500 Question?

Excellent. They are a top quality reel so hope they bring you luck.

    TB Ultegra 5500 Question?

Have you got the destructions that came with the reels? If so follow them. They made sense to me.

    One For The Bait Buffs?

CC Moore absolutely excellent for bait ingredients - and also for supplying frozen baits too. As Jon already said, you order it, it turns up when they say it will. I've been ordering stuff for foreign carp trips and particles for a while off them, and you build up a nice online discount over...

    Hooklength line?

btw this might come in handy Wayne, this is an excellent rig for barbel used with a pop up: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=7flKCpOLit4&feature=related

    Hooklength line?

supa nova is the absolute don of hook link materials isn't it? been using the same supa nova rig for carp for about 3400 years now it seems, on my little local lakes and abroad on oceans too. only down side is it can tangle if using long lengths but no issue on combi's. plus you need to wet...
