What is Best Relief Lotion/Cream from Insect Bites

We keep horses and suffer badly with horsefly bites during the summer. We have found Hedgewitch Essentials products that can be used not only on our horses but humans too. It’s all essential oils based and natural products. The bite and sting gel works brilliantly and really quickly. Well worth...

    Small river barbel rod

Davis Tackle Harrison Avon rod. They do a 1.25 Avon which is 11ft and a Stepped up 1lb 10 0z version. I have the stepped up version and it’s superb for smaller river / chalk streams and for hit and hold fishing. They are built by Harrison’s for them

Excellent Service from Chris at JW Young.

Same here. Always great service. Fixed the wobble on a Ray Walton I bought from a friend for just postage costs. Top bloke and has breathed new life into that company.

    Mainline for trotting

If you can find in Sufix Duraflex. Best line I’ve ever used. 10lb.bs is 0.20mm. I use it straight through. If I need to step up then 12lb bs is only 0.22mm.

    New Drennan Barbel Rods

They look ok. Shame they didn’t bring out a month or two earlier to give a chance of looking at / reviewing before the season kicked off. They could also have included a keeper ring and maybe a different coloured tip - everyone does white . Having used orange tips all last season they stand...

    River Wye advice required.

I’ve fished the Wye for many years now. Some bits I’ve learnt along the way , don’t limit your approach to just feeders , pva mesh bags work well , a good mix of baits , corn , meat , pellets -8mm to 14mm hookbaits , boilies all work well , don’t discount using a float for barbel , especially...

    Dog spike and rope recommendations

I always put mine in whenever I fish. It doesn’t take much rain to turn Herefordshire red mud to a slippery ski slope , and is an added security when fishing alone that you have something to help you out were the worst happen and slip in

    Dog spike and rope recommendations

I fish the Wye a lot. Never ever go out with out one. A standard 15” Dog spike from Amazon is good enough and I use a double length of 4m car tow rope joined by loops in the middle in case I need to split it , and the hooks are good for securing to the dog spike and adding throwing weight...

    Reasonable sized baitrunners?

For my standard set up I used Shimano X Aero 4000s. Slightly bigger spools and line capacity and a comfortable size and weight even for touch legering all day

    High end rods

I changed my rods in the last 2 seasons , from perfectly good Drennan MB Barbel Rods , which although I had plenty of fish on over the years I had them - especially the 1.75’s I would say I never totally enjoyed their action. , feeling that there were times I felt near the rods limits (...

    Wading/Trotting Net

I clip my normal net and long handle to either a D Ring on my vest or onto my chest wader straps with a Gear Keeper extender , the gear keeper is attached to the handle of the landing net with a long velcro strap which can slide up and down the handle but not slip off the end of the handle so...
