Had a similar problem last trip out , one of the bushes finally gave up despite being cleaned etc regularly. Contacted Drennan by email and 4 days later. 3 new bushes arrived FOC from Drennan. I can replace ones in both handles and still have a spare. Great customer service.
I’m in the same position retiring wise , but I treated myself early with a pair of Mark Tunley Dark Carbon 2,5’s which can be my go to autumn / winter rods for the Wye and Trent. I was so impressed with his Dark Carbon 1.75s that I decided that would be my reward for 32 years on the railway
After having campylobacter infection and 11 days worth of resulting trots and pain , I use it , freeze it once and then if not used up a second time dispose of. It’s not worth the risk. In the summer it gets used up and never kept. I don’t ever want that bug again it took years to recover...
When I use braid I tend to use without a leader , never straight through but have the usual swivel then hook link. But I alway slacken the clutch off a bit more Never had an issue with crack offs or hook pulls . If I fish nearer to snags or rocks etc I switch to mono - not wanting to have...
Whilst I have watched the latest explanation by Ali Hamidi regarding the twig / wand on YouTube and accept that people can choose to use the device for Carp fishing , I am really quite concerned that the devices are being now being promoted for use in Chub and Barbel fishing on his latest post...
Have a look at the Shimano xAero 4000. It’s the size of a 4000 but with a bigger capacity spool than a normal size reel. I have two of them and they are ideal barbel reels for summer and winter on the wye. I would only look at bigger reels if fishing the likes of the Trent. I’d also...
I contacted Cotswold Aquarius and they have all the samples and templates for all the lone angler range , they can still make any of the range to order without the lone angler logo either in Camo or Green but the costs are prohibitive as the minimum order quantities prevent small orders. It I...
These were the most thought out and best wading bait pouches IMO. , Tony Miles and Trefor West brought them out originally under the Double T name , then sold again by Trefor under Lone Angler. They had a liner and an Adjustable neck strap - brilliant for deep wading and not losing your bait...
Might be worth asking Johnson Ross or your nearest AD to see if they can get a factory built one in for you to “buy”. I was in my local AD a while ago and they said to someone else they could get Torrix Rods in for a customer to see before buying
Either a Gardner Barbel Spoon ( really good - have 2 of these) or Tacklebox Darent Valley Specialist nets - they do 32 or 36 inch nets and you can get aluminium spreaders as spares for them too.
I bought my first pair of Simms Breathable Guide waders in 1997. They lasted until last year. As long as you hang them to dry after use and te h wash occasionally they will last I think 25 years of use upto 70 days a year is £500 well spent and a worthy investment I can still use them...
I have one. I like it very much especially the adjustable drag when legering close in. But I must admit I prefer the simplicity of my Ray Waltons for most of my barbel fishing
Have a chat with Mark Tunley. His Dark Carbon Specialists 2.5 might be what you are looking for. I’ve got them for Autumn on the Trent and could use for LR Tench rods. The action is to be tried and seen . I love mine.
Mark Tunley for me. I have quite a few of his rods now. His Harrison Dark Carbon Specialists are superb. And his 13’6 Specialist float is a stunning rod
