    Your first barbel photo

My wife has confirmed that this is indeed me, though I have looked in the mirror and can confirm that it isn’t ( now ). 04/09/79, River Severn, Eardington. Not my very first but of that time. I still have that smile ( minus a few teeth ) when I land one today. Happy Days, G.T.

Grauniad Article - state of our rivers

This isn’t just ‘environmental issues’ though, it’s now public safety. I do get your point though and wonder the same things myself….

Grauniad Article - state of our rivers

Without getting too ‘ political’ , I can’t help but wonder if is time our water companies were nationalised. Whichever way you look at it they are a disgrace. Never mind ruining a lot of our fishing they are simply endangering anybody who enters the river systems which appear to be polluted from...

    Losing your mojo?

I get your point Neil, but I believe that pollution is a far bigger issue. Not many Otters on the ‘Lower’ but fewer Barbel….. G.T.

End of an era, for me

Yes, the last swim looked amazing, absolutely screamed ’FISH ME’ 🎣. Would love to ‘hook up ‘ ( sorry’) but will just make sure that my knee’s are up to job first. Stay safe Neil and enjoy the river. I will let you know how I get on….. G.T.

End of an era, for me

Well Paul I haven’t given up yet and decided today would be a scouting mission for a few visits to the river when the season starts. The criteria is thus…..it has to be safe ( well ‘ish’ as nowhere is 100% safe’.) Access to parking has to be non four by four friendly ( I have a ‘normal saloon’)...

    Boot Space for fishing tackle

I have never had a dedicated’ fishing wagon’, just drove whatever I was using daily at the time. Once when my Honda Accord Estate was being repaired I used my wife’s Ford Ka to transport me to the Teme. Now , that was a bit of a tight fit! My Toyota Avensis Estate was probably the most...

End of an era, for me

Hi Paul, I am in exactly the same position as you ( even down to the Knee replacement! ) . I will surely have the occasional session but ( like yourself ) I am content to have enjoyed the great experiences of the past. Good luck in all you do in the future. G.T.

    Boot Space for fishing tackle

My daughters diesel Juke was bought new but spent most of its life back being repaired at the garage. I realise this could be a ‘one off’, but the after sales service was poor also. Good luck.

Best swim on the best river .

Yes Cliff, such a shame that this stretch of the river will never be the same. Luckily I was able to fish it at it’s best. In truth I realised that this small piece of heaven was unlikely to last forever and I made the most of my time on the river. I still miss those days though, never to be...

Best swim on the best river .

Cotheridge on the river Teme in the 90’s. Favourite swim? Any of them! If only you could turn back the clock ,eh…….. G.T.

    Wind

Yes Graham, hard to understand but I’m sure I was writing about this phenomenon on the L.S. 30 years ago. An ‘upstream’ wind was the kiss of death for fishing for all species there. The only reason that I didn’t simply get back in the car ( and drive home) was that I had just driven 40 miles to...
