Pike, Perch and Zander take the weaker fish out of a fishery, allowing stronger fish to survive, this leads to better brood stocks and more successful spawning. They have had a very positive effect on Rutland and Grafham waters for example Zander are also a prime target for Cormorants...

Probably because successive surveys have proven the initial concerns from match anglers were unfounded and that in many waterways silverfish stocks have actually improved. This really is a very outdated view!!

I read that the government is funding three new roles which will be hired by the trust, hence no members money. There are always those who will baulk at any progress. I actually think that if these roles perform as planned and if nothing else gather the real evidence needed concerning numbers...

Great post as usual Lee, pretty much spot on with my position on the subject. If I say no, do not kill otters, I am seen as burying my head in the sand/ignoring the issue.

Thanks Rob, you seem to see a lot of this, I cannot actually find anyone else who has actually seen dead barbel, lot's of stories but no evidence. Did you get any pictures of any of this? I agree study would help, the problem is that if the study shows there is not a problem, anglers will...

That's brilliant JW, the best present indeed, pleased for you mate. I got the McCleans Salmon Weigh Net I asked my son for, some nice shiny new lures, a pair of warm, waterproof gloves, a pebble, Bluetooth speaker and various other bits and pieces.
