About 20 years ago I was lure fishing on the Grand Union Canal at Slough at the back end of the season. The water was as clear as crystal and you could see every detail of the supermarket trolleys and old bike frames that littered the canal bed. It was great fun to see pike chase the lure and...
A Twyford man who will be missed by anglers and blues fans alike. I was fortunate to spend a day with him on Marlow weir. He was a true gentleman and the last of the Thames professionals. RIP.

I like putting a bit of prawn and the tail of a lobworm on the hook to produce a prawn cocktail you would never have seen at a 70s wedding reception. The carp love it.

Many thanks for organising a great day Graham. Thanks also to Paul for taking the photos and providing a fly fishing masterclass. Those poor trout didn't stand chance!

All sounds good Graham. That is a cracking pike Paul. I once saw one lying in the margin that you could have put a saddle on.
It will definitely be windy and lots of layers are advisable. It can be a bit daunting casting a size 14 buzzer into 160 acres of water that looks like the North Sea...
Stock-take completed. I have a complete spare outfit comprising rod and reel with floating line (8wt). I also have two other rods that are usable if someone has reels/line. Hopefully with the warmer weather the trout will be looking upwards and floating lines/buzzers will be the order of the...
I will have a dig around in the tackle shed and see what I can come up with. I definitely have 2 x 7/8 wt rods plus reels so I should be able to supply a complete outfit if needed.
I will tie a few killer patterns that have done the business in the past. My most successful fly is tied as...
I used to fish the GUC in Slough as a kid. The top method for catching tench was floating crust. Never caught tench on floating baits anywhere else. We would stalk them in the crystal clear water and lob a bait onto the nearest weedbed. The tench would work their way towards the bread with that...
I would be up for this Graham, depending on the date. I have fished there quite a bit. Hopefully with some warmer weather we would be on to floating lines etc.
Cheers.
