    Needed warm waterproof boots

Another vote for Muckboots. Other bits of me have been cold but never my feet when wearing Muckboots.

Are any small river barbel populations thriving?

I fish the Loddon and it is difficult to understand why the barbel appear to be struggling to successfully spawn, whereas other species are not. Fed up with barbel blanking I have taken to running a float through and catching whatever comes along. One stretch is stuffed with small chub and it is...

The sign of a real Celebrity

I bought a copy of Somewhere Down the Crazy River from Jeremy's website years ago. Think I paid £20 for a copy signed by him (wish I had bought a few more given their current value!). Just need Mr Boote's signature which might be a bit harder to get. Steve

    Trotting rod for Barbel

Just taken delivery of the 13ft Acolyte Plus. Have taken a few chub up to 4lb in snaggy swims and the rod has been a pleasure to use - power but sensitivity and perfectly matches my Youngs Centrepin. If I am lucky enough to hook a barbel I am sure it will cope with it. Steve

    Grayling

Spent a few hours today on the Dee at Bala. Pound plus grayling first trot and plenty more followed. Lots of river to explore and a reputation for big fish. I will return!

    Grayling

Advice sought from anyone with a bit of local knowledge. Work takes me to all corners of Wales on a fairly regular basis and I am keen to sample some of the grayling fishing on offer. I will be back in Denbighshire next month but I have also worked from Anglesey to Cardiff Bay and everywhere in...

I’m 6 ft 3in and relatively slim (my wife thinks otherwise) and there is plenty of room in the XL. Still trying to source some decent salopettes. Steve

    new fishing jacket

I have just taken delivery of one of the military 1st jackets which looks and feels great. Slightly shorter in the body that my other fishing jackets which is fine as long as I can find some salopettes of similar quality to complete the outfit. Anyone sourced a decent pair of salopettes? I...

    Best boilies.

I took a break from making my own last season and fished CC Moore Pacific Tuna. They caught me a few fish and I keep some in the freezer for convenience. Steve

    Environment Agency Licence Check

I have had mine checked twice. Once at Farmoor reservoir and once by a policeman! Many years ago I had done an overnighter and was leaving a club carpark very early in the morning. It was soon very obvious that I was being tailed by a police car that eventually pulled me over. I was asked what I...

    Landing net woes

I've personally knackered two of the nets listed in the angler's mail review. I think that the price of the nets in this article tells you all you need to know about the build quality and likely lifespan. I agree with Dave Taylor's sentiments. Steve
