Cycling to fish the River Thames at Victoria Bridge near Windsor c1972. Solid glass leger rod, intrepid reel and a lump of cheese or sausage meat. Countless barbel in the 3-5lb range with the odd 'monster' around 7lb. Happy days.
If you ever find yourself near Bala in Snowdonia you can buy a day ticket to fish the Welsh Dee. The winter fishing for grayling is fantastic and fly fishing and bait fishing (no maggots) are allowed. I have fished it a couple of times in the last year and have had a fantastic day each time.

This is an interesting site: https://experience.arcgis.com/.../e834e261b537.../page/home/
You can look up when your local water treatment plant has dumped sewage into your river. In 2020 sewage was dumped into the Loddon near me a total of 10 times. This sounds bad but other local rivers have...
Lots of sites giving the full list of MPs who voted to allow sewage discharge to continue. Here is one: https://evolvepolitics.com/heres-a-list-of-every-mp-who-just-voted-to-allow-water-companies-to-continue-dumping-raw-sewage-in-our-rivers/.
Whatever your own personal political view, I think...
I was out for lunch with some non angling friends who were raving about Bob & Paul's fishing adventures. The fantastic locations and the joy of being in them help non anglers to 'get' some of why we go fishing. In a sense this is a programme about friendship with fishing providing the backdrop...
Had an email from google today saying some of my passwords had been compromised. I have run various checks and it appears to be genuine. I am advised to change the passwords for two sites, one is BFW and the other is a fishing club I am a member of. Not sure if this is just me or also a problem...
I have been asked to send the boots back. If they are deemed faulty (they are) they will offer a credit note. Trouble is I paid £73 for the boots and the same ones are now £125! Negotiations ongoing.....
I have been a long term advocate of muck boots. Two pairs have lasted 4+ years each but my latest pair have just sprung a leak in just over a year of light use. I have emailed customer support. This is where you really find out whether a company values its customer. I will update the post when I...
Reviving a very old thread. Can anyone vouch for this jacket?

Not so much tackle but books. Many years ago stumbled on a fishing section in a 'bargain books' shop. 'Book of the Perch' by the Perchfishers and 'Chub' by the Chub Study Group were £5.00 each. They had boxes of them and I only bought one copy! 😣. Bought a copy of 'Somewhere Down the Crazy...
I have fished the Loddon for many years and this season, for the first time, I have had no barbel. The chub fishing has been hard but occasionally worth the effort, but the total lack of barbel is heartbreaking. Unfortunately, this is the logical end point of many years of decline. I have...
A lifetime ago, my stamping ground as a teenage angler was the Grand Union Canal in Slough. Tench and crucians were the summer target but big fish of most species swam in the clear water. In the autumn and winter the focus moved to perch and pike and after a session after big perch I stopped by...
The demise of the Thames tributaries is well documented. I have many happy memories of catching barbel on the Loddon which provided me with a series of PBs I could only have dreamed of when I was cutting my barbel teeth back in the 70s. I still fish the Loddon for barbel but without the same...
