Mark, Every stretch of the Kennet holds at least one 3lb+. As far as summer tactics....live baits will always work best even on the most clear high pressured days. In a slack area, a great presentation is paternoster using 2oz and one of those chunky middy pellet wagglers, just perfect for bleak...
Had a quick session thursday and one this afternoon a fish each session,3lb and 3lb 10 respectively. Both on relatively new (to me) areas on the Kennet. Interestingly, the 3.10 had already spawned, very empty, 10 days ago would have made 4. I'll add the pic when my buddy for the day sends them...

Steve, I have found 3 to 4 inch shads to be just the job, though, I tend to get as light a jig head as possible to get the best out of the lures own action, even the pre mounted jellies can sometimes be a bit too heavy.
I got the new Keith Arthur book, and a few lures. Crooky bought my son a brilliant fishing game. He's actually catching by design now, he targets a red one and .....gets a red one.
Drop shotting Simon, were you using flouro on the mainline?
I find when the footballers are in that frame of mind then it patys to go through every lure pattern you have in the box until something makes it want to strike out of annoyance if it isnt particularly hungry.
Paul, the obvious shout is of course AM and PM, though I prefer the latter.
I would shy away from maggots too in fear of over doing it.
Perch will of course feed in the current conditions but a lot of folk lose heart as a big stripey will sit watching the worm in this instance for hours before...
