Sooo what did Santa bring you?

Santa didn't bring me anything, but I did treat myself to a Preston Carbonactive 15' Excel that was on eBay, looking forward to some trotting action when the rivers settle down!

    eating coarse/game fish

I agree, the Murrell(snakehead) are great eating and also very good sport, caught plenty on a light spinning outfit and a Mepps spinner.

    eating coarse/game fish

No problems with taking fish to eat, certainly fish for the table when in Florida and have taken trout in the UK. If I could catch a grayling big enough to qualify under club rules I would take it.

    Shimano x aero 4000 baitrunner

I pensioned off my 5010's a few years back and replaced them with the Aero X predecessor, the XT4000FA. They are still going strong after several years of (ab)use, the clutch is far better than the rear drag 5010 though the cranking power is probably not as good as my 3500B's, never had any...

    Have you ever forgotten ..........

Forgot my landing net head once on a flooded Severn, found a swim where the grass sloped gentlyto the water's edge and managed 2 8lb'ers by 'beaching' them on to the grass!

    Spigots

What Ben said, never find it to be too much of a problem.

    Allcocks Aerial C815

Just tracked down the original thread, it was on Traditional Fishermans Forum in 2014! On there they made the point that cork deforms under pressure, the 3-D printed arbor doesn't, plus you get a completely smooth circular spool profile.

    Allcocks Aerial C815

A while back someone posted a link for the code to 3-D print a spool spacer for Speedias, my stepson did one for me which I've just fitted and it makes a huge difference. I wonder if a similar thing exists for the Allcock, or if not, perhaps the original poster could provide one? Unfortunately I...

    Grayling

With the car covered in heavy frost yesterday morning the obvious thing to do was go grayling fishing. Spent the day on a small Dee tributary, the morning on a stretch Ive never fished before and had 28 with several going over a pound, plus 4 small brownies. After lunch I moved to a stretch that...

    Grayling

Too cold for sitting so a float session was called for today, one Dee stretch refused to yield any fish but a move to another stretch got me 10 in the last 40 minutes of light .

Rod for big chub and barbel.

Darent Valley Avon quiver 11' would do the job, and cheaper than the Drennan.

    RIP John Wilson

His exploits with Mahseer led to me visiting India and enjoying several years fishing the same parts of the Cauvery, he will be missed.

    Perch

I was using my Darent Valley Avon quiver for perch yesterday and got seen off big time by a barbel that took a fancy to worm, 5lb hooklink couldn't take the strain! Made up for it later when this 2.10 beauty took a 5" bleak fished on the same rod.

    What hooks?

I used to be a fan of the Drennan Contintental boilie hook, but for the last couple of seasons I've been using Guru MWG in various sizes for my barbel and tench fishing and they've been very reliable.

    New rods

It's always down to individual preference, the Fox rods that I'm unhappy with the build quality of were, in my opinion, much better fish playing rods than the Greys Prodigy's that they replaced, I always felt they were too soft. However I have a 13' Prodigy TXL that I use for heavy float work...

    New rods

I have a pair of the Fox Duo-Lite twin tips and seriously thinking of dumping them for something better, the build quality of the handles is poor, both suffer from the reel seats rotating on the blank which is very annoying as the rods don't sit properly on rests as the reel weight goes off...

    Sallopettes

Can't beat the Aldi ones for value and warmth, perhaps too warm on the milder days! I've had a pair for a few years and they are standing up far better than the Wychwood ones I had previously, also picked up another pair last time they were on sale as a future backup.

    Grayling

First nippy morning of Autumn this morning saw me heading to a Dee tributary with a light float rod, waders and bait apron. Had a fun day with lots of grayling to about 1.5lbs, along with a few dace, trout and a couple of small chub, can't think of a better way to spend the day!

    Reel Help

I've just updated my trotting reel to a Shimano Exage 2500FD, a great improvement over the FB as the chamfered spool lip helps line feed off much smoother than the old straight edged spool. I do enjoy using a pin as well but the fixed spool is more versatile.

    Targeting Roach on the Severn

Plenty of quality roach below Bridgnorth, as Dean said they seem to respond well to small pellets, but I'm sure they would also fall to the old hemp and tares approach on the float.
