I personally don't think it makes any difference . Shelf or fresh home made, they both catch the same amount of fish.. .. They really aren't that fussy, especially Barbel and especially if they are hungry..I keep old spam in my pellets and it goes rock hard eventually , a bit like pepperami ...

Hi Gary, you might want to get commissioned a Brolly pole made from solid aluminum with a screw spike in the end , like the nash one I have... They are solid and your Brolly is going nowhere..

Sounds to me like Terry Edmonds hasn't found the best way to seat an alps reel seat.. Maybe he needs a bit more experience... I'm not sure of any top end rod builders that won't guarantee a rod built by themselves with an alps reel seat incorporated... Mine certainly will.
