    Hardy conquest centrepins

Where do you see longevity issues with this pin Chris as I only see the plastic lever mechanism as a possibility there for failure and to be fair over the 9 months of abuse that I’ve given the 4 incher I’m quite satisfied that is a lot harder wearing than I first thought

    Home Page Picture

Thanks Bill. It was nice to Knock my mate @Terry Harman with his splasher😂 off the home page and have a proper one put up caught on a float and pin. 😂 You still up for giving me that lift on Friday Terry or have I blown it now 🤣

    Hardy conquest centrepins

“Ugly” is a little bit harsh Dave. I had to cover them up while reading your post there so not to upset them too much 😂 Na seriously I do get what you mean, they are rather odd looking centre pins and I know that to some the looks is just as important as the function but I’m not one of them...

    Hardy conquest centrepins

I want to talk to talk about these unusual centrepin reels. I’ve recently received my second now and I find it extremely strange that they don’t get alot of press amongst float trotting guys. I don’t believe many people actually use them. Whenever they come up for sale they seem to always be...

Which off the shelf float rod? Opinions please :)

That’s right. The power version rated to 8lb line is only available at 14ft.

Wanted. Hardy conquest 4.5 in black

A Tip off from a good mate, and finally I got hold of one Now have both sizes of this unbelievably brilliant trotting reel. These weird looking true pins start themselves rolling like no other I’ve ever used, they are feather light and yet constructed out of one piece of bar stock making...

Which off the shelf float rod? Opinions please :)

Ultimately only you can decide what length is going to suit your fishing best. Up until buying the Preston I predominantly used 4 different lengths 3 of which are used less commonly than the one I go for most of the time. 11,13,15,17. the 11, 13and 17 are not used as often and in 75% of cases...

Which off the shelf float rod? Opinions please :)

Just to throw a spanner in the works, I really am taken back by the new Preston supera x 14ft power float rod rated to 8lb main lines. I hammered the life out of mine last winter putting loads of chub on the bank to 6lb 13oz seen here In closed season I took it to a commercial tench and...

Advice needed for a fixed spool float fishing reel for trotting.

Yes That’s the one. I must admit if I was using them more often I’d likely have a crack at that. I really like the spool dimensions and compact body. It looks like a very well thought out design and yes, machined aluminum gearing is a nice touch over the more common die cast zinc gears. This...

Advice needed for a fixed spool float fishing reel for trotting.

I’m going to give a bit of an unhelpful start to my post and say persevering with the centrepin is well worth doing. Honestly once things start to click you’ll be kicking them fixed spool reels round the shed they’ll get so little use. Granted there are rare occasions when I will use one for...

    I actually caught one!

Hey very well done Martin. 😎

    Avoiding bream !!

☝️☝️☝️☝️☝️☝️☝️☝️☝️ this would be my advice also. Don’t change things if you’re already catching the barbel among the bream. You might end up negatively affecting your intended species by trying to wave off another. Stick with it for sure. I don’t know the river at all but from what I’ve...

    Floats

The “big” floats of Andy’s are superb if you like trotting at distance in fast water. slow them right down and they work an absolute treat. You’ll see em comfortably at 60 plus yards no problem also. I’ve caught hundreds of barbel chub and bream on those big floats. A firm favorite of mine

    Finally!!! Something half decent

Appreciate the kind words Steve. Been completely honest and in my opinion the bulk of the skill in this case is primarily in landing them. We (5 of us) have our own private section of the river and we know that the barbel do pass through it as it’s between two sections on two different clubs...

    Finally!!! Something half decent

Unfortunately Carl I don’t think it’s possible to catch a barbel of that size in a section of river like this, that hasn’t graced afew nets more than once and yes if I look through my pictures, I’m sure to see her again

    Finally!!! Something half decent

As a Yorkshire man originally myself i absolutely understand you there Neil. I was never successful in my quest for a Yorkshire double when I was fishing primarily the swale 20 odd years ago. From what old friends tell me the Y Ouse occasionally throws 1 or 2 up but it’s still pretty rare...

No I haven’t found a black 4.5” conquest yet. That’s the custom pin i designed and built with Garry at mill tackle

It was said with a bit of tongue in cheek phill. I agree with your comment entirely

    Finally!!! Something half decent

Yes. River nene. 6g float, 0.24 main line straight through to a size 10 garbolino spade end xtra strong hook. 8 inch over depth and just nudging a cube of meat through while feeding little but often 2mm micro’s via the cati. Some of the bream I wade through are colossal I’m not a fan of them...
