    New rod.

The torrix 11ft 1.75 is a real gem mark. I’ve had 2 now for a good number of years and while the majority of my barbel are caught trotting floats nowadays, I still take the torrix’s out on the right days. It is a medium/fast action as far as I’m concerned the back end is very steel lite and...

    New rod.

This change in carbon type from the weave to the plain finish is what makes a Torrix what it is in terms of action. It’s 2 different cloth types put together on the mandrel giving the Torrix this faster tip action and very steely mid to low. If the carbon was 1k weave right to the tip it would...

    New daiwa basia

Quite agree Jon. I do get it for larger rivers where the extra length is useful for various things like casting at distance or skypodding etc but for everything else it’s too long imo. 11ft just seems to make more sense

    New daiwa basia

Pricey yes but nice one daiwa at least they are listening because those flimsy sea guides are the only reason i didn’t keep mine. The handle looks awesome too. Love the eva section on the back, love the full cork hood and i really like the back cap too. Proper job. Now they just need to work...

    which loop knot ?

I religiously use the fig8 aswell Cliff especially with all my float fishing hook lengths and find it to be a reliable knot but certainly one that needs snugging up very gingerly. Double overhand loop is another that can be very strong but personally I just stick with the fig8

Advice needed for custom power float rod

It sounds like it’s going to work just fine for you then to replicate the original pattern 👍🏻

Advice needed for custom power float rod

15 plus tip now. It’s better than it was originally. It was horrible to Wallis cast with such large gaps between the rings.

Lead wire for rolling meat ?

Jon….. two replies my friend 1 I have very few secrets in my fishing, this isn’t one of them. I’ve posted it on the forum a number of times when the subject comes up 2 ……. Probably just come back from site job. It’s usually the time when my hands are hacky 😁

Lead wire for rolling meat ?

IMO there’s a much better way to do this. I started doing it like this probably 7 or 8 years ago. I’ve never seen another angler actually try it but imo it is the best way to present a weighted bait. Tie a hook with a knotless knot and leave a hair length of around 10-15mm. No loop needed...

Advice needed for custom power float rod

It probably wouldn’t be a favorite of yours even if built to spec Chris. the blank walls are quite a bit thicker and it can’t physically be made as light as an acolyte or like without negatively affecting the balance to the point it feels too nose heavy…..As you know I tried to do that and had...

Advice needed for custom power float rod

Yes i personally would and the float size wouldn’t change my thoughts on it. The way to get away with less guides is taller guides. This however is a problem as you get closer to to the tip section because there are not many float/match guides at that size that really do stand off enough to...

Advice needed for custom power float rod

I would play on the side of caution with guide spacing unless like Ralph you don’t intend on getting caught out in the rain. More is better from a trotting point of view because the line will flow nicely between the short spaces without the risk of it being blown into the blank. As your a braid...
